F-22 PTS Evolution Mystery Motor

1 Attachment(s)
I'm going to call this one a Mystery Motor. I'm to understand it could be anywhere from 40 to 50 size, and they have no identifying marks on them. Motor came on the F-22 airframe that I purchased for such a low price I "had" to have it.

Broke the motor in on 25% Castor and 10% Nitro. RPM run was on 10% Nitro with a healthy dose of the Sig 25% Caster mixed in.

2 Blade 10x6 Fingali. I don't know where the prop came from, however again thats what was on the motor when purchased.

14,800!

RPM was measured with a Tower Hobbies Tachometer. +/- 10% ????? Again I don't know how accurate they are.

Don't know about you but I'm impressed!

Huh? Doesn't it look just like an Evo from Horizon?

Thanks,

Ernie

Mystery as in displacement. It's obviously the Evo that comes in these "RTF" models. Like I said in my first post Horizon has changed the displacement on these motors, without any way's of knowing. Short of disassembling the engine that is.

I did not want to say it was a 40, when in fact it could be as large as a 52.

Yes it is a ultrathrust muffler. Was going to go on a OS 55ax but figured would see how this motor would respond. The muffler alone added about 1200 RPM.

Sorry for any confusion.

The Evolution PTS trainer engine in the F-22 and P-51 (originally the Alpha trainer engine ) with the lower case a on the head is .455 cu. in.

I've seen 14,000 to 14,100 on 15% Powermaster and Tower muffler, APC 12x4 at approx. 500' above sea level.

That is virtually identical to my TT .46 Pro, and O.S. .46 FX w/ the same muff. prop and fuel.

That's good info. Do you have a source I could verify?

Weren't some in the 50 size as well? If so how would you identify them?

All of the Evo engines have their displacement markings on the side of the head...except the Alpha / PTS trainer engine, which is the .455

The Alpha .455 was the first Evolution glow engine back in '03..it was installed on the Xtra Easy 2 and Alpha trainers...then shortly after, they introduced the .40 and .46

IIRC the .36 and .61 were next...the .52 and 1.00, now the new 1.20

Ok, so with no numerical marking <like mine> I am to gather it's a 45? That works for me. :D

Hope to get the model in the air this week. Despite the fact it's turning to me some good RPMs I hope to replace it with the new 60NX and go up 1 in pitch to a 10x7.
