I posted a question yesturday (somthing like 'dragonfly spinning fast!'). Thanks for the replies for that. One reply was to check the gyro was in correctly so i did and found it all to be working.

I spun up my heli today and again it started to spin. I checked the gyro again plus made sure the rotor blades etc... were all working and ok. I then spun up the helicopter again but this time with the rudder on full left (to counter the spinning) and the tail rotor completely stopped. When i help the mainblades and turned them (keeping the tail rotor still) i noticed that occasionaly the tail wuld slip. Is it normal for this to happen? The tail motor still runs but not as fast as i imagine it should.

I am lost for ideas as to why this is happening as all the wheels and cogs seem to be secure and dont slip.

I would really appreciate any ideas or solutions from anyone . It would be great if someone else who has suffered this (if at all anyone has) could tell me how they solved it. My heli is the dragonfly DD2 (shaft driven tail)

Many Thanks

Mark

first off it is the 22d. second, i think your heli is defective and you should contact the seller about a refund.

It's a possibility it can be defected. It's also possible that the gyro is set too low. While learning I just turned the gyro all the way to the max for more stability and less sensitivity. I'd recommend turning the gyro all the way up and only adjust the mixer gain as needed. Remember due to temperature changes in the tail motor versus the main motor, can require some additional trimming in either directions through out the flight. If this don't come close to solving the problem, then it's surely defected.

I think there is some confusion (at least on MY part) as to whether you have a MOTOR driven tail rotor, or SHAFT/GEAR driven tail rotor.

Gear driven (connect by a shaft to the main rotor) should not slip at all. Suspect broken or slipping gears if this is the case.

Motor driven is not coupled mechanically but electronically (through the mixer or gyro). The tail and main rotors each have their own electric motor and controller. They will turn independently of each other if spun by hand. On some Heli's, the tail motors can fail quite easily.

yeah I agree with what Pop Racer says...I own a both a dragonfly D22 and an aerohawk. There is no tail motor on on the dragonfly D22, it's shaft driven...if you own the D22 the only way for the tail rotor to stop would be if you stripped the pinions completely on the tail rotor shaft. However, if you own a standard dragonfly with a small motor on the tail, then it sounds like you've burned out your brushes of your tail motor or possibly damaged your mixer board (this happens alot) . If you could post a pic or a link of your heli it would help us figure out the problem.

HI again, Problem Solved!!!

First off, Im terribly sorry for getting the model number wrong. Hopefully you all still knew what i meant!

Second, i found that the problem was with the cog that connects to the rod in the center of the tail boom (thus shaft driven(motorless) tail) that drives off the main gear. This is connected to the rod thorugh the middle and is not glued in at all. I took the boom off, glued this on to the rod and it has been fine ever since! (check the pictures as its hard to explain).

Hope that makes sense. Once again sorry for my poor use of the correct terminology, but as i have said before - i am new to this!

Thanks to everyone for the help

Mark

I hope you glued it good but you can drill and tap the gear shoulder and lock the shaft for good with grub screw.
