Some of the upgrades available to the Vintage Tamiya Monster Beetle. The parts are 90's era "hop up" as they were sold at hobby shops to fix the issues that plagued the stock transmission and suspension of this 1986 classic Tamiya.

Hi jasona,

I am thinking about purchasing a Frog kit and converting it to a Monster Beetle and found your blog to be the best on the subject. Can you assist me with the following? "For the front wheels, the Frog front axle is too short, so you’ll need to drill the front wheels with an 11mm drill (if anyone has a go at this project, message me for more details about this point)" Thanks!

Thank you! That was because the Frog axles were too short to poke all the way through the MB wheels. The Frog axles kept breaking the (the splined part would separate) so I changed them for MB front axles: They fit straight in the Frog chassis and that way you don't have to drill the wheels.

In short, don't worry about drilling the wheels, just switch out the Frog front axles for MB ones. Another good mod is to do the same thing with the steering arms from the servo: The Frog ones are a bit thin and flexy and the MB ones are stiffer.

After the millions...and millions...of the Monster Beetle's fans requested it. Finally...the Beetle has come back into.... production!!! A little on the pricey side. Are they "toying" with our nostalgia? Wow what a shameless pun.
