RE: OFFICIAL MONSTER GT 8.0, MMGT FORUM
I normally will try to get something that my local hobby shop carries. This is not only to try and get parts on the fly (if they have them), but someone in there probably owns one and can help you if you run in to trouble. Having said that, Team Associated will ship stuff pretty quick should you need parts. TA parts are everywhere and I don’t know of any hobby shot that does not carry them to be honest. I trust TA but know nothing of ThunderTiger but that means nothing, I am relatively new to the hobby and don’t know much. However from reading up here I have heard that both are basically the same trucks.
Hope this helps

TA is owned by Thunder Tiger. The MGT 8.0 is the Sledgehammer as the MGT is the MTA4 and the Mini MGT is something else thunder tiger...
They're the same exact trucks.
They're the same exact trucks.

:-)
but i can get the associated body and use that on the sledgehammer?
reason i'm asking is coz the shop does not seem to have the associated truck and from what i've seen, they are priced more than the thunder tiger but they both use the same spare parts??

My muggy is almost if more duable than my old, fully bash built Savage... Truggies are extremely durable for bashing. Probable more so than MT's

I never said truggies weren't durable. some of them are durable as all heck! I meant that truggies lack the ground clearance of a MT. So if you bash in really rough terrain like rocks, gravel pits, rough dirt etc. a truggy is not as functional as a MT.

This is true. A truggy is just a MT with a LCG and built more for racing (suspension, tires...). I have my Revo setup more like a Truggy than an MT. That is one cool thing about the Revo. You can jack it up and make it in to a basher or you can lower it down and make a damn good racing truck out of it. GET A REVO! lol....

I'm waiting to see what XTM's truggy is like. They have not let me down on the X-Cellerator or the XT2 and the price is always right. Both of those have motors that run great, easy to tune and I have really bashed the hell out of them (probaby cause they were cheap and did not care) and only had minor breaks.
I have NOT tried any of their MT's for some reason... I just got the MGT 8 because it just looks like a great package. I have a new Mega Baja so one of them will go out of this. Keep watching the classifieds, soon I will be selling a slightly used Mega Baja or MGT 8 LOL.... MB is a good truck and cheaper than the other two by the way

Truggies are terrific bashers, they are really rugged, you could always put monster truck tires on your truggy to get that higher ground clearance. Its just a matter of preference, there is no right or wrong vehicle, its up to you.

This is true, the differences are minor and most have configuration options to get what you need out of it. Truggy is newer and conceived and born at the track. It is a racing truck first, everything else second. I can do things with my Revo the way it is configured now that I can NOT do with the Mega Baja. I do not think I could make the Mega Baja act and handle as well as the Revo either. This might be the case with others like the MGT. You can make a Truggy in to a MT but you cant make an MT in to a Truggy... I'm probably wrong there and will get flamed LOL.

RE: OFFICIAL MONSTER GT 8.0, MMGT FORUM
LHS had the MGT 8.0 in stock today. Really looks like an impressive truck. Had I not just spent a bunch of money earlier in the day on other hobbies I would've glady purchased it. Like a lot of RTR moster trucks the body didn't appear to be terribly durable and I wouldn't be suprised if the aftermarket companies can't get a little more HP out of one with a different designed exhaust. Other than that it looks like an impressive package especially for the money. Probably add one to the line up before spring. Really impressed with what I saw. Only negative thing I can say about it is the LHS doesn't stock parts for it like they do the Traxxas stuff. (That could change if they sell a bunch though) Unless Traxxas comes out with a 1/8 scale Revo with a big motor and an FM radio for $500.00 my money is probably going the way of the MGT 8.0.
Reading the stuff about Truggies vs. Trucks.... I guess it's kind of like comparing a Truggy with a car. Sure if I was on pavement a good road car would probably handle better than a Truggy. We all know a Truggy will out handle a truck. Running in thick grass and rock and etc. the truck is sometimes a little happier in that application. Another thing is their is a huge fun factor with the trucks and pulling wheelies and etc. Example, I have a Mamba maxed T3 and a Stampede, now performance wise the T3 in almost every application is superior. However the Stampede gets used about 10:1 compared to the T3 b/c it's a lot more fun. Not sure I did a great job explaining it, but I have no doubt you can bash the snot out of a Truggy and for that matter a Losi Eight or T8 but their is just a fun factor about the trucks that some people like.
