Tore the .21 MGT down for a good cleaning...
Well, last week, I decided that the MGT could use a good cleaning up. I hadnt cleaned it since i got it used, and the chassis was pretty dirty, so i decided to clean it up some. I took everything including the transmission off the top of the chassis, and left all the arms, bumpers, and skids on it, and took a sponge and some soapy water to it doing my best to keep it off the bearings. Anyways, just thought I would post up the pictures to liven this place up a little.
So far im really liking my MGT. Very easy to work on, strong driveline, and I cant hardly flip it! This thing either turns or slides sideways for the most part, but it rarely flips. It may have something to do with the t-maxx wheels and tires on it, but I love how it handles. It doesent wheelie nearly as easy as my savage either, so im thinking it might be a better hill climber. I might find out soon!
I also hooked my reverse up tonight. It was just wired in forward, but i figured if the parts were going to be in the transmission anyways, then i might as well be able to use reverse. It will be great for the wooded areas we have here at my house, and probably for climbing and stuff too. Plus, my girlfriend im sure will find it very useful when she runs with me
Now for some pictures....

Ididnt really do a great cleaning, but i didnt clean it up decent to where it looks at least decent now
While it was apart, Ialso decided to take the transmission apart to check it out and see how it was fairing since i dont know how much use this truck has had really. It looks perfect inside. It had some old white grease in it, and Icleaned it out and got a good amount of Pennzoil wheel bearing grease on all the gears. They all looked fine, and Ialso oiled the bearings while i was in there. Everything fit together good and felt good and tight. I have also included a picture to show why im not too into t-maxx's anymore. There is a picture of the reverse mechanism out of my old t-maxx beside the reverse mechanism from the MGT. Its very clear which one is bigger and stronger The only thing that needed attention in the transmission, was the2nd gear shift sprag that comes out and catches 2nd gear. It has been hanging up and holding 2ndgearbecause itgot a little beatup on the end. Soi filed it down smooth again.
I ran it again today and everything is great since i put it back together. Doesent seem to be holding 2nd gear any more like it was, and it still drives and runs smooth, and shifts perfect. Now for some more bashing!

looks good. i wonder how the bearing grease will affect the plastic gears??? i used white lithium, but it wasn't totally petrolium free... i couldn't find a definative answer as to the "best tranny grease" so i used the best i had on hand at the time. i wish the gears were metal!

All the gears in mine were metal except for 4 of them. I dont see the grease hurting them at all. So far so good on mine. I had quite a bit of grease on the gears. So when i first put the tranny back in, it wasnt really free spinning. After a couple of tanks now though, it spins very free. Im sure the extra grease just had to get worked out of the way.
I stripped a spur gear last night though. Hobby shop didnt have an extra when i was there the other day, so i couldnt buy one. Guess ill have to order one online.
I have a question for someone that might know... Will a traxxas t-maxx spur gear fit and are there any the right tooth count and pitch? I would imagine the LHS might have a traxxas spur, and i noticed on my MGT the slipper setup is the same as my t-maxx was.

I can't say for sure, but all you need to do is take your spur gear to the LHSwith you and compare it to the MAXX gears. If it looks like it will fit, then I would guess it will.

Yeah, i will probably just order a couple spurs online. I need to order some for my savage too. I didnt set the mesh quite as tight as i normally do last time, and i guess it came back to bite me. I have ran a couple of gallons or more on the spur in my savage with no problems yet.
