Don,

Did your search on artistic aerobatics turn up much more than the link above? I was searching on the same subject some time back and came up with very little, and most of what I did find was not recent. It almost looks like AA got off to a false start, then faded into the background.

We had an AA event at our NVRC pattern contest in August. We had three entries and it went over very well. We are considering expanding on this next year- there is a lot of interest in the club to do this. Several came out to watch this event specifically. I'll keep you posted on how it comes together.

If you are thinking of giving Pattern a try, I had very good luck with an airplane called the FOCUS. Why Pattern? Well, it helps with technical aspects of flying, whether it be scale, jets, IMAC, or even sport flying. Forcing to put the plane exactly where you need it to go, correct rudder inputs to correct for wind, precise radius, roll and line segments with positioning and geometry. The link below goes from the setp of opening up the box, to final trim flights and experiences along the way. Some drawings and sketches included.

No one manuractures it any more. Its out of production. Its been replaced by the Brio-- www.piedmontmodels.com

Having said that, I have a FOCUS II ready to fly, for sale....

Hi Don

Question on the Funtana wheel pants ....did you dremel the slot on the wheel pant to fit over the nut on the axel so that the wheel pant fits snug to the gear?? ...or is there a gap??

Anyway...thanks for the articles on the Funtana! I started flying last Christmas and shortly thereafter got a Funtana as a second plane. The guys at my club think I'm some kind of middle-aged prodigy (am 44... and laff at that) as I am able to do about everything well with the Funtana except Rolling Harriers (am working on it). Thanks to guys like you and Mike McConnville for the
step-by-step setup and maneuvers...it makes learning this stuff a snap (EASY BUTTON). Expert advice and hard work (many hours on the simulator and at the field) pays off. Many Thanks.

I had over 500 flights on my Funtana before a horizontal stab failure (caused by a poor repair job by me) claimed it...its an amazing plane!

Yes, Actually I used a knife and cut a six sided hole that matched the axle nut. Then there is a slot that is as wide as the axle and then slide it down over the wheel and axle, push it so it clears the axle nut and is flush with the landing gear, tighten the wheel collar, then tighten the 4x40 srew to snug the wheel pant against the landing gear.

This is a "By the numbers" build of two BRIO aircraft kits. There is information specific about this model, but also techniques on setting up a Hyde mount, and covering with Ultracote which may be applicable and helpful to those building other planes.

Dual Elevator setups:

The 10X has a built in "Dual Elevator" setup in to the wing- function (Code
22, Wing Type). Be sure to connect the right elevator in the ELEV port of
the receiver and the left elevator in the Aux 3 (Channel 8) port. After
mechanically adjusting the center, use Code 15 (Sub Trim) to fine-tune servo
centering and use Code 12 (travel adjust) to adjust the end points for
perfect throw on each elevator half. Be sure to "INH" Aux3 on Code 17
(Function Select).

A few more. Some videos of in-flight of FAI sequences taken on board the airplane. And, a video someone took from a demo flight at the Culpepper airshow. I looked at this and realized that ror info local airshows are good, but you have to fly at least 15 feet high so the crowds more than one row deep can see. Finally this was on the video instructional.

This included the flying clinic pictures but tell him that its the Video that Steve Insalaco published for the flying portion of the clinic. I'm not sure but I was told there was going to be a compressed version posted on youtube. If I can find that link I'll post.
