engine choice for pattern flying

dear sir,

1.wonder if you have personal preference for 2 or 4 stroke engines for
pattern flying. i understand that some people use 2 stroke like the OS1.4 rx because
of lower vibration and more power. i am referring just to pattern flying.

2. my second question is directed to a 90 size pattern plane i have. i am thinking
of using an OS 90 2 stroke on this but am concerned about excessive noise,
what are the ways to mute the engine without affecting performance?

please share with us your views.

I prefer 4 cycle, YS. It provides a greater control of speed during maneuvers than 2C. However, a few reasons to use 2C is cost of nitro in your location, economy, there are some inexpensive 2 cycles.

The fastest way to reduce noise it through 3 methods. First, an effective pipe arrangement. There are many at Central Hobbies. Second, a soft mount. Nothing compares to the Hyde mount for efficiency. Third, go to a multi blade prop.

Best of luck,
Don

thanks so much, mr don szczur, putting money aside. i presume the choice is obviously 4 stroke then.
how do you tackle the problem of vibration caused to the servos? besides the hyde mount, do you have
additional damping for the servos? what are the precautions you would take to arrest vibrations?

i always come across the term "hyde mount" is this a prototype name or is it specifically the one and only
hyde mount presumably sold by hyde? MK has their own kind of hyde mounts if i am not wrong.

thanks for your patience.

good luck and all the best to you too!!!

Hyde Mount, made by Merle Hyde. I've never had any servo issues when running this mount. Central Hobbies stocks them. Worth the investment whether running 2 or 4 stroke.

Best regards,
Don
