You know, I was wondering why your batteries needed to be so far forward! Since I will be running tuned pipes and may need less weight in the tail, is there an option or possibility for a pull-pull setup? Not that I prefer it, but I may need it...

The RX batteries really arent far forward. They are right in front of the wing tube. I have one model with DA mufflers and the second with MTW 75 canisters. The balance is fine on both and no weight is needed with one rudder servo. There arent any provisions for pull pull. Use one 8711 on rudder and your good to go unless a really light engine like a DA-85 is used.

I'll be using the DA hundy, and the tuned pipes will be composite. Their combined weight is less than one cannister, but the bulk of that weight will be aft of the wing tube. And if I remember correctly, you are using three 4800 Fromecos, and I assume that your ignition battery is somewhere in/near the front of the engine box? I plan on using around a half-pound total weight in lipo batteries, as well as a CF spinner, so I won't have much weight to move around . However, I will be using a single 8711 on the rudder, and I have a CF tailwheel ass'y that might drop an ounce back there. I don't think it will be enough, though. I am sure I can make my own provisions for a pull-pull, if need be...

I am using 3 x 4000mah Lipo batts. The ign is about 3" behing the fwall. The model comes with a good CF tailwheel assy already btw.

Mike,

I have this plane on back-order, and a friend of mine does as well. We are researching and making decisions on how we want to equip these two planes, and have a question regarding yours. I have read that you have two of these powered by a DA100s. One with canisters, the other with standard mufflers. In regards to weight, power, and throttle response. Which exhaust set-up do you prefer for this airframe and why?

Not sure. The canisters are quieter and sounds really good. The muffler equiped one is about a pound or more lighter because of the weight savings of the exhaust. Both run the same Mej 27 x 10 prop and power is great on both. I dont really feel the weight diff much. On the DA100, the throttle response seems to be excellent on either exhaust.

I think it depends on how you want to fly. If you are competing in IMAC, go with the canisters, if all 3D, use the mufflers.

BTW, I loaned my cannister equiped version to Brendan Jones to fly in an IMAC contest in Hamilton OH last w/e and then the NATS in Sportsman class in a few weeks. He won the contest last weekend with about 3 practice flights on the airplane and I predict he will be the US IMAC Sportsman Champion in a couple weeks.

Rollers are like a 40%, Snaps like a 40%, super light locked in feel
Absolutely awesome plane.

I ordered mine may 1st, and have just purchased a brand new hundy, sitting in my closet still in its diaper! I also have the 9303 2.4Gig on order, all servos are here, and a power expander on order today. All I really need still are batts and regs, and I have my eye on a set of ES-composite tuned pipes!

The drop is 2-1/8" from the exhause stack face to the cl od the canister. DA should know what is needed as well, they've already made them for my models.

Mike,
I'm getting this plane for IMAC, can I get away with standard muffler setup, and go with a 3 bladed prop, with that be quiet enough? Is there much of a power loss when going to a 3 bladed prop?

In regards to servo's, I may use a 8711 on the rudder, what do you suggest for alierons and elevator?

By the way, your ceiling check in Muncie sold me on the plane!

Also, do you have a approximate shipping date?

Thanks for all the valuable information you have posted for us all. I have also ordered one of your H9 35% percent 260 aircraft and am in delema of what powerplant to use. In your unbiased opinion could you please shed some light on this as to what motor between the EVO 116 and the DA 100 you would personally prefere, if possilbe? I enjoy having excessive verticle from a hover and am wondering if the DA is capable of such a task in stock format. I figure with DA 100 on composite cans (4 oz ea.) the weight would be kept to a minimum. Where as the EVO weighs 6.8 lb bare excluding ign. but has much more rated HP.

Please Advise! Thank YOU!

P.S. I have seen multiple videos and NOT sure what Engine/Exhaust combo you are using.

Mine will have:
DA-100
std mufflers.
2-8711's on the rudder.
8611a's on everything else
Fromeco electrical.

Simple.

Have you seen the video of him flying it at the Nall? That was at 28 pounds with a DA and cannisters. Toward the end, he gets down low in a hover and punches out - looks to have PLENTY of pull out at that weight! Now, you could drop well near or over a pound from his setup by going with stock muffs, smaller batteries, and lighter parts, like CF spinner, CF wingtube, Kavan wheels, whatever. The pull-out punch will only improve then!
Personally, the DA is a no-brainer and is what I have ready for it. In addition, I am running:
EScomposite tuned pipes
Mezjlik spinner and prop
3ea. 1500 lipos for rx and ign
Power expander pro
Smart-fly switchless regs (the PE Pro has a smart, single failsafe switch that weighs practically nothing)
5955's all around, except the rudder - a single 8711(way more than enough), and throttle - a digital mini servo.
In addition, I have a set of Kavan wheels and will have a CF wing tube as soon as I find out the exact diameter and length. I also plan on shaving a few ounces off the airframe in key areas.

To be completely honest, I wasn't sure if that was the set up with the DA or the EVO. NICE to know it is a DA, considering I have one brand new right on front of me (love their service that goes a long way w me) I think you and I are on the same track about puchasing some extras to lighten it a bit for max performance. ie. wing tube, spinner, possibly carbon pipe ( expensive but only 4 oz ) I am a newcommer to using cannisters or pipes. Do they really make it worth while considering the weight and the price increase? Have you had any experence with the EScomposite pipes, it seems as though they would be a true benifit over all others. Thanks for any input that would like to add! Can't wait for that Brown Truck to Drop off my KIT!

Wish they would get this airplane on the streets! I want one but don't want to be first. I plan to watch this thread and see how the early builds go. I don't plan 3D but rather IMA style with DA 100 and stock mufflers.

Yup, despite the fact that I now fly at an elevation that is more than 4,000 feet lower than where I was, I am still kind of a weight freak! I may compete with this plane, so I want it quiet. But I don't want to add a pound in cannisters to do so - might as well add less weight, get more power, and be quiet at the same time, right? Therefore, I already ordered and paid for the EScomposite pipes.
I already have everything else, including the Power expander. People that know me are probably calling me a hypocrite right now! I have NEVER run one, but this plane will also be under the control of the 9303 2.4GHZ radio. I FIRMLY believe that it is utterly important to ensure a constant, clean, and consistent voltage to those receivers to avoid dropouts. Yes, it adds 2.5 ounces, but it will also eliminate the need for additional weight in switches with it's Smartswitch technology, which is essentially just an extension that comes off the power expander with a pin switch, which weighs practically nothing.
Anyway, I will be happy if I can get this thing down to around 27 pounds, and satisfied with anything less than 28 pounds.
