Default GY401 gyro question???

Can I run this on a 5 cell, 6V pack or do I have to run it on a 4 cell, 4.8V pack. Thanks.

Default RE: GY401 gyro question???

I just asked the same question a few days ago, and was told that Futaba states 4.8V for the GY401. If anyone else catches this, how many receiver slots does the GY401 use?? I just picked up my Rappy 50 V2 (first heli), and am shopping for my electronics, and need to know what size receiver I'm going to need, keeping the GV-1 in mind for later. I know the GV-1 uses 3 slots, but the throttle plugs into it, so if the gyro only uses one slot, I'll be ok with a 7 channel.

401 uses two slots, rudder and Aux-2 (ch7) on JR 8103.

Thanks 11290. Looks like I'll need an 8 channel Rx instead.

The GY401 needs 2 slots... It's channel 5 on a Futaba system... then channel 4 for the rudder (JR system is different on rudder too... ) You can get away with only 1 channel for the governer, but you'd have to set the on/off switch to be controled with the throttle stick... or in my case, I don't have an on/off switch for my governer... It' off during normal mode and on during idle up 1 and 2..

The reason you should only use a 4.8v battery is the digital servo that comes with the gyro will jitter if the voltage is too high... You could use a 6v battter, but you'll need to regulate it first. I think down to 5.1 volts would be ok to regulate to.

i have been running the 401 on 5 cells for quite some time with out any issues, no jitters etc.
What if any other issues have been mentioned running with this configuration. I may be blissfully ignorant and should read the 401 paper work a little better.....

Any constructed comments appreciated.

Appreciate the replys....I've decided to go with the futaba s9252 digital servos, which also state 4.8v, so that's what i'm going to go with. My LHS carries 1700mah 4.8's. Hopefully that will be enough to get me about 3 to 4 flights between charges using the higher comsumption digi's.

Well...rcmushroom.com had the 9252's for $55 each, and the GY401/9253 combo for $175, so I figured I'd give them a try. I've got the heli all assembled, and down to blade balancing, pitch setting, radio set-up, etc. Just doing the set-up, I have already noticed how much crisper these 9252's are compared to the analog servos in my planes. I also found a place online, radicalrc.com, that happens to be owned by a guy in my flying club (didn't know this until recently), and he carries 4cell 2700 & 4000 Mah NiMh, so I ought to be set for power.
