Raptor 30v2 - Need Help!
I've decided I no longer want to wait till May 29th (I turn 20) for my Heli LOL! So I need help to decide what to get. There are 2 options I'm looking at:
1. Raptor 30v2 kit plus 49bb upgrade, OS32, Muffler, FREE UPS! $379.99
OR
2. Raptor 30v2 kit, 49bb, OS37 SZH, CARBON 550s, Muffler!!! $479.99
For an extra $100 I get a bigger motor and carbon blades. I know for a fact the added power would be much better for 3D (which I am learning on the Sim - SO much fun!) All in all would I be stupid NOT to go with the upgraded kit if I have the money? What's your opinion? Any other advice? I'm going to be making the purchase in the very near future and I figured I'd ask some questions before I do anything.

RE: Raptor 30v2 - Need Help!
Of those choices I'd get option 2 for sure. On the other hand that's what I paid for my Raptor 50 V2 with TT50 engine and wood and carbon blades and have been very pleased with it. Check into the 50 a bit before you buy. I think in the long run you will be more pleased with 50 and the 50 V2 comes with the 49 BB kit standard.
Some folks have bad things to say about the TT engine, but mine has been flawless from the start. It fired up first try and did not need either needle touched to fly. My LHS reports the same number of bad engines between the OS50 and the TT50 so take your pick, but the TT50 is much cheaper when purchased with the kit.

RE: Raptor 30v2 - Need Help!
A 30 is much cheaper to fix if something goes wrong. It's still a pretty big heli (my friend has one). I don't need anything high teck at this point. The 30 will do anything the others can do right? I started with planes and didn't go out and get the biggest best one for a reason. I'd like to do the same with the helis. When I get good I could just upgrade what I have. The prices are from HeliProz.com, all I'm missing is servo's with this kit, correct?

The prices between the 30 and 50 parts don't differ alot and the parts in many cases are the same.
I've got the OS in my 50 and that really is the way to go. If you can afford the hyper go for it, its got even more power than the OS50 which has better power than any of the TT engines and they are easier to tune.
I got the veloci-raptor package and have been very happy with it and Heliproz. The 30's don't have the power to weight ratio of the 50's so its harder to do some of the more extreme manuvers and you have to be better with collective pitch management where as a 50, esp a hyper has the brute power to push through a tough manuver.
Either way you won't be sorry but you'll probably be upgrading the 30 to a 50 sooner or later so save yourself buying twice.
As for what else you'll need, besides servo's you'll need a gyro, 6mm hex start extension and a glo plug extension.

RE: Raptor 30v2 - Need Help!
The HyperRaptor 50 PRO should be amazing. The parts cost is the basically the same for 30 and 50 size Raptors from what I've seen. I've only replaced 2 parts thus far and they both fit the 30 and 50, the flybar paddles and the washout hub.
I know all my OS engines have been easy to tune and have run great. I will say atleast for my TT50 it has been as well. In fact I have not yet HAD to adjust the high end needle even with a temp change of 60 degrees. I have turned the high end in 6 clicks to reduce the smoke a bit so I could see the heli while it's hovering though. My buddy has the OS50 in his R50 V2 and he has a bit more power, but mine runs a couple minutes longer on a tank.

I use the carbon pushrod for the tail with the tail mounted rudder servo. Huge nice. Its a good way to go. You will like that heli. Its a good one.
Might get a couple sets of the cheaper glass blades and use them till you get proficient. Save the good carbon blades for later. I wouldn't drop to woodies though. There are so many ways they can warp and cause you headaches. TT makes good glass blades that are great for learning. They don't warp and they are pretty cheap. Almost comparable to wood in price, but worth the difference.
Good luck, you will like it.
