Default Cool Power 5% . Is it ok for tt39.

Went to the shop today and bought 2us gallons of 5% cool power green fuel . Dont know if it is ok for a tt39 or not. The last owner of the heli was running 20% but as Im only a begineer I thought that I would use 5%. When I have ran the heli I have had to screw the main needle in quite far . It does run fine and after hovering for about 10mins I can touch the back plate for about 5 seconds. Is the fuel safe to use in a heli ??

In my opinion dont use the 5% even the twenty is low to me all the guys I fly with are using the 30% if you are just learning you dont want to take any chance that the engine would even burp slightly because i can you from personal knowledge you wont be ready for it and i have seen people using 10% burn the heli engines up just my two cents worthgood luck and have funwith the heli addiction

The more nitro you run (to a point) the cooler the engine will run. You don't need 30 percent but 15 is a good compromise. That being said, if you keep an eye on the back plate temp and don't over heat it your not going to hurt the engine with it but you also won't see the power you will with a higher nitro fuel.

I use 15% at the moment. I am still learning to fly so it works good enough for me. But what barracuda said you won't probably see the power in it as you would with higher up.

Im not really looking for top performance . I just want to know if it is safe to run this fuel as I think the green cool power is areo fuel not heli. What is the idel temp for a tt39

5% is safe for a heli but ONLY for running in as my friend found out the expensive way....
and 12% nitro is where the minimum is, aero and heli fuel are the same right???
I fly both and i dont seem to have ever seen a label say heli or aero

Tuned the heli tonight on the 5% cool power and went for a bit of a fly around. Well actual a bit of hovering as Im only a beginner . I left the settings a little rich so that it has a little less power , which is ideal at this stage. When I touch the end plate after hovering for a full tank I can easily hold my finger on there for five seconds and Ive also got the throttle curve right so the head speed is between 1500 and 1600 .

nice job, when my friend did it his heli choked at about 10 feet off the ground and he wasnt prepared so he nailed himself. Did the engine run smoothly the whole time?

My opinion........ The green coolpower 5% is for planks only. The minimum nitro content
for reliable heli operation is 12% with 18% oil minimum( preferably full synthetic ). Caster
oil is garbage ( gunks up the inside of your motor big time ).

That said.........Only 20% of the heli pilots out there should be running 30% nitro. Unless
you are a 3 D ace pilot, 30 % is a waste of money. 30 % nitro also runs rougher than a
15% setup.

Typically high nitro fuels run well in TINY engines (.15 - .21 truck/buggy engines , the cox .049 loves nitro )
the bigger the engine the rougher it runs on 30 % nitro. Do NOT run 30% just to lower temps. Sure it lowers
the temp because you have to crank open the needle for more fuel flow $$

Buy some 15 % nitro 18 % full synthetic ( add 2 - 4 extra ounces of synthetic / gallon if you want insurance )
and you will be a happy camper

Keep flying that green plank fuel and ..............well you know the rest.

The 5% that I am using is doing just fine for me to learn to fly . When I get a little more experiance then I will move to 12 or 15%.

no no you dont see the 5% you are using is quite unhealthy for the engine if you use it past breaking in, have you read the engine manual??The engine will give up on you eventually like it did to my friend.
please consider at least 12 or 15% nitro it might save you a heli

Yes I have read the manual. It says use a fuel of 75% methanol and 25% lubricant for break-in and when more power is needed use a nitro content of between 5% and 30%

Another point........ Typically engines manufactured for the european market have
engine tolerances designed around low nitro fuels ( I guess nitro is really expensive
over there ). I would still recomend at least 12% nitro if you can afford it.............
....hmmmm what am I saying. Any one flying helis has already commited to large
cash expenditures in support of there hobby. I think your cutting corners on the wrong
item, but its your heli.

Fly it like you stole it

The problem isnt the money it is the time it takes to get it. My nearest dealer is 70 miles away and they can only send 4 gallons through the post so I just thought that it would be sensable to use the 2gallons of 5% that I have and then move onto 12 or 15%.

or you could save the 5% for running in other engines and buy some 12 or 15% for your current heli

Do you think that I could mix my cool power 5% with some magnum 30% . If I do a half half mixture I think I will get 17.5 nitro and 19.5% oil . That way I wont be throwing 2 gallons of fuel away. My local (ish) stockist doesnt do any more than 15% cool power so I dont think that will do.
