servos for raptor .30?
ok figure i may make the leap to nitro this summer.
ok so i have no experience with anything bigger than an electric (mirco). what type of servos should i use on the controls? torque wise i mean. would something like [link=http://www.greathobbies.com/products/productinfo.php?prod_id=HITHS425BS]these[/link] work or should i spend more for them? i cant do 3d yet just basic flying. im looking for them just to get me up and flying for right now. thanks
Nick
::edit:: nvm i found a thread i feel stupid now

RE: servos for raptor .30?
They are a pretty slow servo but they will work for a beginner (I assume your starting with a 30 size heli?). You should buy the best servos you can afford, that way if you ever upgrade to a bigger heli you won't have to buy new servos, it will basically save you money in the long run. You definitely want a good servo on the tail, what gyro/servo are you planning to use? I would suggest the 401/9254 combo, it's the best bang for your buck when your first starting out, it will take you right into 3D flying when your ready.

RE: servos for raptor .30?
i was planning to use a 401 but hadnt decicded on the servo yet. you recommend tthe 9254 is there a reason for that other than its high speed? or will any high speed servo do? >.1s
the reason i was lookng at those servos is they come with a radio i am looking at, but i guess i can buy them seperatly. what servos would you recommend for me, preferably best balance bewteen preformance price wise?

The 425 servo will work, but I cannot recommend any servo other than the Futaba 9252 for cyclic after having flown them.
No question about 401/9254 combo. It is the best and will handle the tail without any problem.

I'll sell you my 401/9251 setup. It works perfectly. I've got a 601/9251 that I'm using now. If you can afford it (or justify it) I would highly recommend the 601. The tail DOES NOT move unless you give an input with the stick. It doesn't matter how windy it is... And you can fly sideways as fast as you want to, but the tail stays where you put it. I find that i have to trim the 401/9251 combo. There is no trimming needed on the 601. Set it and forget it.

RE: servos for raptor .30?
I'm a bit old school i guess, all four of my GY401s have S9253 servos rather then the 9254 but the ALL hold the tail rock solid even during high speed backward flight, if your 401 isn't holding it's a setup issue. I've also got two JR G5000T w/ 8700G servos and the 401s are equally impressive and I've flown a few 601s in other birds and didn't find them any more able to hold the tail, just a few more bells and whistles.
to the original question, yrs ago i used 'standard' JR 517 servos on my Raptor 30 and i stripped several gear sets and found that they didn't have the torque to hold the controls during high G maneuvers so i run JR 4721s now.
