If they feel really loose (flopping around) and if you can pop them on and off the ball with your fingers using very little force it would be a good idea to change them. You what them loose, but you don't want them to loose (if that makes any sense). You should have to use some force to get them off the ball using your fingers.

I can vouch for that. Last week my tail rotor link popped out of the servo arm ball in flight, resulting in a very interesting landing.

Replace them when there is free play between ball and link
Average life more than 2 years.

If you grease them and they pick up dirt then they will grind away in a few flights, if they are properly sized and cleaned with alcohol once in a while I have some that are two years old and I can give them a good tug and they wont pop.

BTW: typing in all caps is considered shouting, please refrain unless you wish to EMPHASIZE a point.
