Default Woodies covering

The answer to this question is probably in the forum somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

The covering on my wooden blades is loose. How do I get the covering tight again like when they were new.

Thanks Randy

You can cut a small slot in it and wick some thin ca in there, when you press it down the hole should all but disappear.

Even with the covering loose right from the root to the tip, top and bottom of the blade?

Oh....no in that case the easy option is to use stick on monokote. Thin CA any exposed wood to avoid fuel absorbtion or better yet, wood blades are cheap, get a new set.

Is the covering broken(rips/tears)? Or is it loose like it has stretched? If so you should be able to shrink the covering with a hairdryer. Even new blades sometimes can have loose covering.

I use to use a heat gun that I would use on monokote on the planks to shrink it back up. Worked fine for me. Just make sure not to keep it over one area for too long. Some decent carbon blades would be a worthwhile investment too.

The whole covering is loose. There are no holes, it is just like they are in a bag. You can't really tell the covering is loose until you put your finger on it then it kind moves up and away from the wood.

I'm just learning so I would like to continue with these blades if possible. I was planning on buying a set of Radix blades part way through the season.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I put the heat gun to the covering on my blades today and now they are just like new.

Another Q on covering. My covering is damaged, can I remove it and paint the blades or do I need new blades? Thanks

The blades can be painted, just make sure that you use some type of fuelproof paint.

Many years ago, I used to use polyurethane on a spray can. It worked wonders and the wood of the blades was visible, they looked awesome. Then I bought carbon blades.

I'm new to bigger helis, but I read a post saying that you NEVER take the covering off. I thought they meant that it reduced the structural integrity of the blade somehow. Rafael, are you saying that the only concern is that they don't get oil-soaked from the exhaust? What about the electric Raptors? I was told that you couldn't even lacquer the blades for protection...

The biggest issue is weakening the wood from oil soaking.

You can paint them if you can get them balanced, to me thats alot more trouble than its worth considering the reasonable price of fiberglass and carbon blades.
