Roofer,
I have also just fitted this 770 Gyro combo to my Titan so any setup tips would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mark

I think before I did a conversion I would keep my nitro and buy the Raptor 620se.

Had some engine problems today. First the engine wouldn't turn over, thought maybe it was hydrolocked, but that wasn't it. Long story short, I dropped the engine and the crankshaft had up and down play, so I took the fan off and then tightened it down, play was gone, put everything back together and wa-la, back in buisness. But I must have hit the needle adjustment somewhere in between because once in a hover the engine seemed it was screaming, so as I set her down the engine shut down.

My venom temp gauge was reading like 399.6 , I put a fan next to it and let it cool and then tried to start it again, no go, the engine would turn over but not well. So I take the engine back out and look in the exhaust port and notice the piston is scarred. I take the head off and the cylinder is scarred in the same place and I can feel tiny grooves in it. So it looks like I need to rebuild the engine? Looks simple enough, but how do I get the crankshaft out so I can remove the piston and rod?
Update...ordered the parts to rebuild the engine, did the rebuild yesterday and fired her up this afternoon, started up first go The rebuild was really easy, replaced the stock engine bearings with some ceramics from www.rc-bearings.com Paul had the bearings to me in 2 days via USPS Priority...THANKS PAUL

Guess the only downfall is I have to do a new break-in, hovered around two tanks worth today so I should be just about set. I also put on a pair of NHP 95mm CF tail blades...what a difference.

Thanks for the advice on how to get the engine apart and the bearings out/back in!!!

Not really necessary, but everyone has their own way. Glad to hear you are back in the air.

Really? Even with a new piston, ring and cylinder liner? This was my first rebuild, I just assumed I would need to do another break-in. Cool, thanks for the info...hopefully it'll be awhile before I have to rebuild it again...LOL

You could have just flown it normally is what I'm saying, but taking it easy never hurts.

Watch your temps from now on!

Break in is over rated, maybe set it a couple clicks rich and go fly.

The liner and ring are the only things that "break in" so if you replace one or both then yes you do need to do a "break in"

That being said, fly it a few clicks rich for a few tanks and you are fine. So many people think that tank after tank of running blubbering rich with fuel pouring out the exhaust is breaking in, when in reality its just prolonging the actual break in, and wasting fuel.

I set it to the reccomendation is the OS manual, which is 1.5 clicks out from closed. I have run two tanks since then, registering about 175 degrees on the temp gauge.

So I'm okay to start leaning it out a bit so the operating temp is around 190 - 200?

210-220 is what BCH recommends and I use that temp area too. Having been out of range I can really tell when it's in range, the motor runs so much better.

Doing some maintenance on the Titan and I had a quick question. Is it a good idea to lubricate the ball links on the head?

Hi guys,
Maiden flight today with my raptor 50. Spent about 15 minutes mechanically adjusting the rudder servo to stop a bit of left drift but apart from that all went smoothly.
I was only able to bunny hop around to start with as we had pretty gusty conditions. Very much looking forward to my next flight hopefully next weekend.
One question, any recommendations on what best to use to clean up heli fuel?

Regards,
Mark

No, clean them with alcohol once in a while and check them for tightness. Any lubricant will enevitably attract dirt, which will act as a lapping compound wearing down the ball and link till it falls off in flight (a bad bad thing)

The amount of time, effort and $ in trying to get the paint to stick etc. it probably would of been earier to just buy the fibreglass one.
I also have a pair of carbon fibre fin but the fluro plastics look better in contrast with the grey boom.

Mark
