RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
We have only E20 in our country now. But I guess E80 should run better?
Now it's time to modify carb a little bit more.
Remember we use TT50 engine on Raptor39 frame. Now we are going to replace 50 carb with TT39 carb.
Above carb is TT50 and below is TT39 carb.

Grind outer diameter to fit Teflon ring in between engine and carb. This is to allow carb to be cooler by isolate heat from engine crank case.

Like this:-
Drill small hole underneath the carb, it will allow more fresh air into engine chamber. Don't worry about the size of the hole.

Install carb to engine by leaving small hole open. The size of this hole is adjustable by turning Teflons ring to be offset with the carb hole. Smart...right?

That's pretty cool man, doubt I would ever do it since I can't stand the smell of gasoline. Nice work.

To rid the smell of gasoline, dilute regular bleach with lots of water and if wanted add scents for sweet smell flavour.THen wipe down bird with solution.
Wipe down after every use
Gasoline smell is gone for good.

I dont know if it will work with glow fuel, but Coleman lantern fuel runs great in gas engines and doesnt smell. My wife has never figured I have a gas plane in the house.

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
Thanks nok_rc for sharing.
We have discovered two things today.
1. Continuous power to glow plug does not need any more. Just replace the plug with Type F plug (or any four stroke plug should work).
2. Gasoline 91 (no ethanol) also work. No need E type gas to do this conversion.
Here is the clip. First part before landing, plug was turn on during flight. Second part after landing and start to fly again, the plug was turned off remotely.

Wow, this is what I have been looking for. I pay $40 CDN for heli fuel and it is one of the biggest limiting factors to how much I can fly. I'm so happy you guys are putting in the time and effort to making a nitro engine work good with gasoline. Please keep up the good work.

Right, small carb work well and easy to tune, but original carb work not bad. Just a bit more patient tuning. Here is how it fly in the field.

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
Hi there! This is my first post. I have a few questions to ask:
1. When you used E20+oil at 4:1 ratio, did you get to check the temperature of the head during idle and after flight?
2. What 2T engine oil did you use? The fully synthethic or mineral for motorcycles?
3. After using the 4:1 mix, how is the condition of the engine right now? How many hours have you on it right now?
2. Where did you get the flywheel? Was it custom made or from another heli?
Thanks!

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
I have a Trex 600N that I wish to convert to run on gasoline. I have the OS Hyper SHX or whatever it is called.
I hope this thread and this person's testing has not stopped, it would be very sad. I do not have a garage anymore to test in but I really wish I did. I also have a CSM Carbsmart on my engine that could keep a constant head temp and help keep the motor in tune during flight for optimum power. It is adjustable from 90 to 120 degrees head temp. I also wonder if there are other needles available that could fit in the carb for the OS50 to aid in tuning.
Let's try to keep this thread and research alive. I also have a dream of making an OS90 fit (it is possible) the Trex600 and having it run on gas. I wonder how the power would compare to a .50 on nitro. Just 2 gallons of 30% nitro heli fuel would cover the extra cost of the .90. Could be interesting.

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
Hi everybody
I read this very interesting thread the yesterday, and signed up to the site :-)
So I'm a newbi
I thought it sounded too good to be true, to be able to fly on pump fuel with aero oil. That would save me some money ;-)
So I had to try it.
I fly a Vario trainer .60 engine.
For my own experiment i mounted an old OSmax 60 heli engine in a test stand....an old delta wing design that did not work at all
I followed the idea from this thread.
So i bought some 95 octane pump fuel and mixed it with 22-25% Aerosave oil. Used a new OS "F" type glowplug for 4 stroke engines, and tried to start the engine....
I had to lean it A LOT to get any signs of happiness from the engine. The main needle was proberly 2½ before on metanol, now something like 1-1½. And the same applies to the other needle.
I got it started and fiddled with the needles a lot. Removed the glowpower 1.15 into the movie i did with my nokia. on WOT the engine would hunt.....i tried for about 4min to correct it, but ended up
using glowpower again. Did some more adjusting, removed the glowpower again right at the end of the clip and the engine did not hunt at WOT :-)
I used so little Benzin (gas) compaired to metanol/nitro. Normally when I hover my heli I can get 15 min on metanol/oil (with on nitro). Using nitro it's down to about 12min.
Here i played around at least 20min if not more..!! I know a test stand is not hover...but still :-)
Notice how little fuel is used in the clip, if that is possible to see?
Maybe the engine ran too hot.....I think it did....the head was very hot. It started to rain so my test stopped early. I would have liked to try metanol/oil afterwards to get a feel for if the engine
ran cooler with that.
Here is my movie clip on youtube, any input would be great, thanks :-)

RE: Raptor 39V2 with Gasoline Fuel
So it seems it had been quite some time since this has been looked at. Reason for me now is, I’m in Iraq and getting Nitro here is hard... Anyways, my army job gives me access to 100LL AVGAS (100 octane low lead aviation fuel). So I’m thinking this stuff would work great. Makes my car scream... So I’m looking at doing it. I will, if anyone cares, post my results. I have a Rap30 stock with a TT39 with the one piece TT muffler. So tomorrow I’m going to play around with mixing the fuel and seeing its viscosity compared to nitro. Maybe even see if I can spool her up and check some temps. Anyways if anyone is interested let me know.
