Default Mounting NiCd's to starter?

Hi all,

I picked up two NiCd battery packs so I can shed my field box on my starter and I was wondering how everyone was mounting them to their starters.

I'm thinking zip ties and maybe some packing tape at this point, but was curious what everyone else was doing.

Thanks!

Brandon

I would use seven cell packs if I did this again mounting them sideways rather than on top of each other.

Thanks for your reply!

I had a friend of mine show me these after I had posted on here yesterday:

Hopefully my LHS will have them in stock. For $13, hard to beat.

You will get pretty sick of the nicads quickly, I did. Now I'm running a 4s 2200 Lipo. Much better! Spent like $40 on the bat.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm debating on whether I want to spend the $14 for these or just DIY something for closer to $5.

The nicads dont last long and also dont hold a shelf charge very well. They are fine if you top them off the nite before..

That makes sense. Most everyone seems to be worried about the voltage dropping too low with the lipos on a starter.

I'm thinking one of these would be cheap insurance against such:

I may have to order a LiPo... hmmm...

Yea im sure that could be an issue .But they last so long anyway i doubt a day of flying would reduce them to an unsafe level. But better safe than sorry

Best I've seen yet for lipos and nicads on that style starter.

I have one, used two 2200 14v Lipos on my YS1.60 Spun it faster than it idled. Easy to puff batteries however.

That's nice! But maybe a bit over the top. I'd probably just go with a Rat Shack project box. In fact, I may have an extra one... hmmm... may have to look for that tonight.

Thanks for the link!

Hi!
2200mAh Lipo cell!
14,8V ...what power compared to 12V!!!
The "yellow" thing is the glow driver that starts as I press the handle on the Sullivan starter.

Neat! Thanks for sharing.

Whats in the yellow thing? Just curious. I'm an electronics geek.

Hey Jaka,

(there must be a simple answer for my question but i just can't think of one right now)

If you are using Sanyo nicd's they last pretty well, but the cheapies do lose their charge quickly and stop taking a charge after maybe a season of moderate use.
