Default Best way to remove & recover a small wing section?

Hey all, I am looking to do a little re-enforcing of my center wing root here soon. Problem is it is nicely covered from my last cover job. Is there a good way re-cover the section that was removed. Does one just overlap with the new covering over the old? Or is it best to re-cover the whole wing again. Either way I could use the practice. I recovered the whole bird after my tree/sod rocket crash & rebuild but I enjoyed it, and it came out pretty well IMO. Whats the norm for a sectional covering repair?

Default RE: Best way to remove & recover a small wing section?

To me, it'd depend on the overall condition of the covering on the wing. If the whole covering job is looking pretty ratty, I'd just recover the entire wing.

But if the over all condition is good, then all I'd do would be to cut the existing covering in a straight line from LE to TE about 1" outside the "repair", then overlap a single piece of new covering about 3/8"-1/2" over the old covering. Iron it down, shrink until smooth, and then re-apply any trim scheme.
