Best way to clean muffler
Does anyone have a good method for cleaning that burned on fuel gunk off 4-stroke mufflers. I'm aware of the anti-freeze in crock pot method of cleaning engines but I just need to clean the muffler and am hoping there is an easier way to do it. Thanks.

Best way to clean muffler
I just did my mufflers in the crock pot method and they cam out looking like new. Very easy to do. I bought a 9.99 crock at Kmart, cooked the mufflers for an hour or so and then wiped them off. Just like new.

I wonder if oven cleaner would work. Do NOT let oven cleaner be in contact with anything Aluminum for more than a few minutes at a time. Might work though...

I have used alcohol and a wire brush with reasonable success without removing the muffler. I purchased a wire brush attachment for my dremel but have not tried it yet.

OK, I've been flying RC since 1975, but I've never heard of the antifreeze and crockpot. Someone tell me what to do please (be nice!) Use full strength? Any particular brand/type? Thanks!

Safer than anti-freeze is biological washing powder, either simmer it in a pot or apply using a brush/rag although that takes longer to really soak in.

"Clean a muffler???" LOL
Acetone to clean the gummies and then Spray Starting fluid (ether) to break down the baked on. Finish off with WD-40 and a toothbrush. I jam mine into the ground at speed occasionaly to keep them nice and polished. Like a mud facial. A little hard on the plane behind it but proper muffler care requires these sacrifices.
Run it very rich for the first few minutes after using the Spray Starter treatment on an engine as this will dry the internal bearings if any gets inside the carb. barrel.

muff cleaner
There is a product called Demon Clean that is available at some hobby shops. It costs about 20 bucks & will clean about 50 mufflers. You brush it on & let it sit for 30 minutes or more. Rinse with water & wipe dry. After I use this I chuck the muffler in my drill, get it spinning, then turn on my buffing wheel & hold the muffler up to it while it is rotating. Looks like new.
