It would not fit in the bottom section of the all so popular Box from Hell,so I took a hair dryer softened it up and pushed it into position PERFECT FIT plus its 2 gallon

I took a 1 gallon milk Jug lid and some blue silicone form a gasket and secured the bottom hole HOPE it works I will let it set a day or so before the test (ANY advice)

My cell will go in the bottom of the top
Please let us know how this holds up....

I'm not really happy with my current fuel cell... I am using a 1 Gallon plastic gas can... Doesn't quite fit so I took some "Great Stuff" expanding foam and put my battery and fuel can in then put foam around it all... Then you just cut out the extra foam and you are done...

I picked up a couple rubbermaid containers at Walmart, just over a gallon each, and both fit perfect in the bottom like a glove. No heating. I slipped my 12V motorcycle battery in between them and everything fits. I'll post a couple pics tonight. I have 2 stroke and 4-stroke fuel running off one pump to the outside of the flight box. Thanks for the tips guys!

I am now creating the "Ultimate Charging Box". It should be pretty trick. This would be used to charge batteries in the field, in the house and at the office. It will come with an internal cooling fan and 12 volt home converter as well as a gel cell and two chargers. It's not even really heavy.

512,
I'm at work at the moment but will post a couple pics this evening. the jugs i used hold a full gallon of fuel (each) without a problem. I did have to trim out the tray but it will still allow me some room to make some little compartments in it.

Default Promised pics

OK, as promised here are 5 pics of my box so far. I still need to tidy up the wires and fuel tubing but it looks like it should word out fine.

The fuel 'cells' are from Walmart and were $4-5 each. They easily hold a full gallon of fuel each. I added a small vent out of brass tubing, as well as the line to draw fuel out. I did not put these in the cap, rather the top of the jug. this way i don't have to disturb any of the lines when refilling the cell. i used some silicon liquid nails to seal the flip top on the caps. These jugs didn't require any modification and fit nice and snug right down the bottom of the flight box with the battery in between them. there is some modification required to the lift out tray but I think I can still work in a couple compartments in it.

On the outside of the cart i have the power panel and fueling station. Nothing fancy on the panel, I just removed the back cover, soldered in the power line of my pump to the 12v location on the pump plug in location on the panel. put the cover back on. With the pump inside the flight box with the switch on it to 'on' all i have to do is hit the button on the power panel and it pumps.

For the fuel connections on the outside of the box, there are 4. Starting at the bottom, is the line from the pump to the plane. Above that is the other line from the pump that actually is the 'in' line to the pump. on this conection I go to either of the 2 connections above it, one to the 4-stroke fuel jug, or the other to the 2-stroke jug. essentially the fuel with come out of the jug, through this connection, back into the box to the pump, then from the pump back out of the box to the plane.

well, I babbled for long enough, here are some pictures. Thanks to all the guys on this thread for thier ideas and innovations! this is great stuff! thanks to bill and drdeath for your thoughts and tips via PM.

Default pic 5...last one!

and finally the guts of the thing. i still need to hard wire the battery instead of the alligator clips and tidy up the fuel lines. also put some silicon on the connections to avoid any possible leaks, fluid or air.

Nice work I saw those jugs I just didn't like the lids didn't seem to air tight guess I could use some silicone caulk to secure them

My 2 gallon jug takes the whole bottom. If I cant figure a way to fit the 12 volt cell in the top I'll use your idea thanks

Thanks guys. Let me know if you have any questions or need me to email any pictures.

I have a question, can anyone recommend a good 12v fuel pump? The one I have in there is a relatively inexpensive one from Tower and I'm not really pleased on the rate that the fuel is being pumped. Any thoughts would be appretiated, including time to fill a 20oz tank etc?

Hey Sean

Sonic-Tronics makes one of the best fuel pumps I have ever seen. It is called the Super "X" Fuel Pump. I had a Hanger 9 one that was pretty bad. The drive shaft is only held in via friction. Didn't last more than a month or two. This one has lasted over a year so far and still going strong. Here is the link

http://www.sonictronics.com/products/pumps/prod02.htm

Hope this helps

Lee

Default My Ultimate Field Box

This has been an amazing thread. After reading it a few months ago, I decided I wanted to build one of these. The first box I bought was like Billy Hell's, but I wanted 2 fuel tanks, 1 for 10% and 1 for 0%. I couldn't fit everything like I wanted without cutting up the trays, so I continued to search for a similar solution. I found this box, and thought I could make it work. It has worked for me and I think it is a great box. It has storage space for everything that I want to take to the field. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread to get the creative juices flowing. I will attach several pictures. If anyone has any questions, let me know.
