Default Cutting the Canopy

What do you use to trim the canopy. Is regular sissors ok, or is there something better. Have SIG 4*40 that needs a canopy makeover.

Curved scissors work much better. Here is an example

The car guys use them as well and they may be called body scissors at the LHS.

I actually have those scissors and have used them quite a bit on different plastics that need trimming. My question is I have used them to trim a canopy but I still get some rough spots where the canopy has been trimmed. What are you guys using to smooth out the rough spots but not damage the canopy itself.

Patrick.

Patrick:

I just use a sanding block along the canopy edge. Just stuff a towel or rag inside the canopy so it doesn't squash while you sand.

Sirrom,

Only thing Ive ever had to do was brush them lightly on a bar sander or a sanding block. You could use just paper but be careful it doesnt curl around the edge and put scratches where they will be seen.

For the final fit, I tape a piece of sand paper to the airplane and use it as a stationary sanding block to smooth the edges of the canopy to an exact fit. Hold the canopy carefully so that you don't distort it and get an unanticipated edge shape. I have always thought this was the way everyone did it. [:-]
