Default 16X6 Prop Reaming... Need help!

I have a standard size prop reamer that goes to 3/8 which is not big enough for my Saito 150 shaft. How do you get the right size for the bigger props? I checked with Tower and all the reamers they sell are only up to 3/8 too.

Thanks!

KZig

Your local hardware store should have a tapered reamer which can be made to work. Just ream from both sides and get the minimum diameter to where it just fits.

Tower does carry two prop reamers that would work in your case:

Here is one that can ream up to 10mm: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEGH6&P=ML]Great Planes Precision Prop Reamer Metric[/link]

Here is another: [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNL18&P=7]Fox Prop Reamer Metric 10 & 12mm[/link]

I think you will find that 10mm is right at 3/8" and that KZig is asking for reamers larger than that.

Well, I do have a Saito 150, and the diameter of the prop shaft is 10mm at the base. 3/8" is slightly smaller than 10mm (9.525mm to be exact). I've been using the two reamers given above to ream props for my Saito 150 without any trouble.

Don't worry about it. If he needs something larger, then the Fox reamer can do 12mm.

Richard L take a trip over to Boeing surplus and get him a reemer. You can get one of almost any size for about 1 dollar.

Seems as if you would end up with an hour glass shaped hole if you used a tapered reamer. A prop reamer or prop drill bit cuts the hole one size all the way through. Maybe it doesn't matter.
