Step by Step Trailer Build

RE: Step by Step Trailer Build
Noticed a disaster today on my trailer. Both tires have a wierd wear problem. Upon looking closer at it, found my axle is bent. Got pigeon towed wheels now and two ruined tires. I have no idea how that happened. I didnt feel a shock or anything. It looks like I hit a stump or heavy stake in the ground. The trailer frame is a harbor freight 4x8. Been good for about 2 1/2 years until about a month ago. Its a pretty light duty axle. SO, I'm researching torsion axles for a replacement. I hear a lot about how much better the ride is. My old spring setup was pretty bumpy but no worse than my 1 ton truck I used to use as a aircraft carrier.

I had that problem of stuffing planes into a PT Cruser then I found a U-Haul hitch and bought a 5X9 box trailer from Home Depot for $1100 and problems solved Its light enough to pull with the PT (750lbs). Last trip of 1200 miles I got 24-28 mpg @flight speed!! Great for hauling 3 1/4 scales and one 30% and keeps the gas stink outta the car!

RE: Step by Step Trailer Build
Hey there Robotech,
Did you add that side door yourself, or did you have somebody do it for you?
Sure looks good!
I have a 5X8 Continental Cargo trailer and am thinking about adding a side door to it.
Was it a big job to do? Where did you get the parts to do the job?
I don't know whether to add the side door, or just buy a 5X10 with a side door already in it and sell the one I have.
Any advice for me?
Regards,
Dennis

My thought too. I hate crawling over planes with the trailer loaded for a days flying! How or where did you get the door? I made tie-down rails on the inside of the walls and anchored at every "stud" Solid enough to hold dirt bikes against the walls on other outings. Yes ,I have a truck but too cheap to buy diesel fuel. Rather run the PT and have gas to burn when I get there!
