RE: how to fake a scale wooden flying prop
I've been watching this thread with intetrest for a while now.
I've got this "China" prop for Christmas from my GF and need to make it look more authentic & weather it a bit before I put it on the wall.
Have to paint the hub, tips & add the metal
Could use the alum tape for the edge & paint
Any ideas are welcome.

My advise is to leave the prop as it is , and thank your Girl Friend profusely. Women are strange creatures and comments like "if you don't like it, you can take it back" are not intended to be instructions.
However if you have strong intestinal fortitude and/or no longer care for the relationship - go ahead and 'improve' your gift.
The 'real' prop I have has the end third covered with doped on fabric. That's the brown area show on the previous pic. That would be easy to reproduce.
I would not use foil tape to replicate the metal work as it willl not look 'real'. Brass faced Aluminum weather flashing is quite thin and could be easily worked to the correct shape.
You could also copy the 'Sensenich' loggo I posted earlier, scale to about 4" x 1 1/2", print it on to two large Avery lables, cut out, stick on and clear coat over.
If I can be of any help with the project (not the girl friend) e mail me.

RE: how to fake a scale wooden flying prop
this is the test result > the front side is ok but on the flip side it was hard not making wrinkles[:@]
one piece & a compound curve is almost impossible
P.S. no prob with the GF, she holds the prop while i sand it

To make life easier I suggest you put the metal on in two pieces as it is on my full size prop. See attached photo. The join in the metal is directly at the break - or should I call it a vortex generating tip. This break is another realistic item you could recreate - Girl friend willing.
Inspired by this thread and the lousy Ohio weather I worked on a MA 20" prop that I intend to use on my OS 5 cyl radial engine. See pic for my first effort

Vasec - sorry I too loaded up the wrong pic. It's unfortunate that one can't see what has been uploaded until after it's posted.
In the first post
pic one is the real prop, good tip
pic two is the model prop.
In this post ; if I've done it right this time ; the pic is the 'vortex tip' of the full size prop showing the metal join

V.

RE: how to fake a scale wooden flying prop
vasek - I enclose the requested pic of the back end of the prop, broken tip. The metal extends the same distance front and back. The metal joint is visible a little below the start of the tip reinforcement.
