Remote ignition help. How do I do it?
I have a Parkzone Stryker that I have modified to do over 100 mph but I would like to propel it even faster for a few seconds without sinking more money into motors and batteries etc...
What I want to do is attach a model rocket engine or two to the underside of the plane and ignite them either in sequence or just one for an extra burst of speed. I have free channels on my receiver but I am not sure what equipment I would need to ignite the rocket from a spare channel on my radio. Has anyone done this and have some links or pointers to help me finish this project? I already have mounts that I have made that align the rocket engine along the same thrust line but I am not sure how to ignite them via remote.
Any info is appreciated!
Thanks
B

There are many concerns that I would have in doing this. First of all, all that exhaust heat will burn the crap out of your plane…and if you say that you’ll point the engine thrust at a slight downward angle, in order to clear the fuse, it will create positive lift. Now, how much more speed you will attain is debatable…at least that’s how I feel.
Are you using standard estes engines? What size? A, B, C, D, E? What about the parachute retro-charge (if your using estes engines)…How will you handle that discharge and exhaust?
You will have to get an extra servo to actuate a SPST switch, which will be attached to a 9 Volt battery and a standard estes rocket igniter. When you flip you retract switch, for example, the servo should move the switch from off to on and send 9 Volts to the igniter…And viola….instant fireball in the sky.

Thanks for the info... I have D engines with no retro charge. I am making a mount that hangs off the bottom of the plane about 6 inches that is angled enough that it should not produce much if any thrust in the wrong direction.
I dont need the liability disclaimer. I am aware of what could happen, and will take the precautions nessisary. Its my decision and I dont plan on holding anyone else responsible.
