Vinyl Graphics Over Ultracote
I just bought a used plane that has some vinyl flame graphics that have been applied over Ultracote covering. There are few spots where the ends are coming off the Ultracote. Does anyone know what the best way that I can get the ends of the vinyl to stick? Also, the guy that had the plane before me came in contact the a covering iron on high heat and the vinyl is melted in one spot. Does anyone know if I can take take this damaged vinyl off without ruining the Ultracote underneath?
Thanks in advance,
Keith

I haven't tried removing grahics from a cover such as monokote or ultracoat..I have had to open the bottom of my wing to add weight for laterail balance. I could clearly see where the grahics had adhered to the monokote..on the upper side of the wing...if that's an indication of how well it's stuck down..it would be very hard if not impossible to remove.

It's not too hard to remove the vinyl, just be sure and take your time!
I'd try using the heat gun putting just enough heat on it to soften the adhesive and then
carefully pulling the vinyl back.

Use a covering iron set to a medium low heat setting to re-affix the lifting vinyl. Lay a paper towel over the vinyl and tack it back down with the iron. It doesn't take much effort but you may hav to experiment with the iron temperature.
Vinyl comes off quite easily using a heat gun. Run the gun back and forth over the vinyl a couple of times and the stuff will roll up in a ball as you run your fingers over it. Wear a soft cotton glove so your don't sting your pinkies on the heated vinyl.
