Default My New Workbench. Thanks to your suggestions.

Well, I've finally moved up from assembling on a folding card table, to a better workbench. The backyard shed is too cold or too hot, most of the time. So, I only use it for very large or very dirty work. Like cutting the gutter pipe for my hybrid NexSTAR. Anyway, working in the basement, meant working in a somewhat limited area. For the last couple of years all my ARF assembly and repairs have been on the card table. I decided to resurrect a closet door I've had in storage for awhile.

Pics and materials:
24"x78"x1-3/8" hollow core door. (cut down to 60")
2"x4" frame
2"x6" legs
Contact paper covering. (Almond)
I glued and screwed the frame to the bottom side, then screwed the legs to the frame. I decided to cover it with the contact paper to make it easier to see things sitting on it. And, it makes a smoother surface than the wood grain. I had considered a shellac or urethane finish, but I want to be able to use push pins if the need arises. I opted for Almond so that White covering or papers wouldn't blend in to a White work surface.
The surface is very flat, and very level. The card table would always get cluttered so quickly. As you can see. Once it gets cleared off, and out of the way, I'll be able to access 3 sides of the workbench.

Oh, BTW, I only spent a few bucks on the contact paper. Everthing alse was left over from previous household projects. I guess it pays to be a pack rat, occasionally.

Looks great! But I'm gonna wait to see the photo of the new bench when its "filled to overflowing" like your old one. For you see, its a law like gravity, all flat surfaces will collect any & all things that will fit on them, & a few things that wont fit. have fun filling it. Bill

I have a work table that looks much like that card table. Unfortunately, it's four by eight feet.
