For What It's Worth

Anyone remember these articles from RC Modeller magazine. I always circled and wrote notes on the front of the magazines to find them easily. It seems that the art of building has been lost over time. If anyone has any scans or whatever, that would be cool. I doubt copyrights matter since they are gone now. There were usually two pages in each mag. Some were kind of redneck, but others were pretty clever.

Hlsat is a familiar name. He makes a good effort with his research. Lots of info there, I will spend some time on that site over the winter. No musty smelly mags from my basement, and some different ones to read. It seems to stop at 1969. That is about when I started flying.

I have Volume II of the collection. Got it for free as I'd contributed some ideas that they used in the collection. I still browse through it once in a while looking for ideas when I'm stuck.

I bought a whole bunch of "For what it's worth" books at a swap meet several years ago. Very neat stuff. You still see them around but not what I would call often. I also used to clip out build articles out of magazines and put them in my scrap book. I still refer to that stuff.

remember as a kid, going to my buddy's house and paging through the stacks and stacks of his dad's RC Modeler magazines. he must have had 100's of them stacked up all over the house. man,... I wash I had that collection now !. never saw another magazine that came close to them.

I was a little obsessed with the RC Modeler Mag. I though it represented who we were. AND it did

As a control line flyer back in the 1970s I never really thought too much of RCM, but got a few here and there as the ads were pretty good and they had some related stuff. In the 1990s I reread them all after going a bit more into RC, and of course the "For What It"s Worth" column is dog eared, and something is written on the front cover, and side if there was something in that column, or a plan or something interesting. Maybe I have over 100 magazines, not all RCM though.

yup, I flew U/C back then too. they never had much in them about that niche of the hobby, but they were interesting .my first radio was an Orbit 4 channel that I bought used in about 1968. fortunately because of the stacks of mags my buddy's dad had, I was fairly educated on the r/c side of the hobby when I started.
