Well I'm starting my build and thought I would show you guys what I have in mind for this build. it will be a hybrid of a King Tiger with a E-75 "up-gunned" 88mm turret. It is a "what if build" because I just don't have the time to re angle the front armor. I will be baseing off of Trumpteter's kit. So here it goes!

I got a lot of help from tankers from the form to overcome my first hurtle, The main gun. From Wal-mart of all places. I got a black, extending fishing pole. got it necked down but I'm still going to have to get the barrel turned down .03 in' to make it look right. The green tape marks the spot I have to cut it.

Well, on to the ranger finder covers, I tried to find something to used, then I remember that I had a Asia-tam Panther II turret. Time to use my best friend Po-yo! Stuff is really great to use. Just mix and press around what you need and "BAM!" you got a mold!

I have got the lower hull done and tested, But when I frist tested it didn't work. Called Dana Lowell and asked if he could stop by to look at it.He found out that I had over looked a cable. Duh!   Airbrushed in a 80% Dark Green 20% Dark Yellow mix. Tracks are painted black and then it rub off to show the Gray color of the tracks. Rust on tracks is a no-no when paint tanks. If a real tank has rusty tracks from sitting for more than a week and moves 100 feet in dirt or sand the tracks will be a bright metal color.  I will be going to a machine shop tomorrow to turn down the main gun a bit so I can get the new barral on.

Please don't take this the wrong way......the e75 was to have 4 two wheel boogies on each side......you have 9 wheels like the king tiger.

He stated this is an up gunned KT hybrid type thing rather than a pure e75.

Don't take this the wrong way but the reason the turrets where the size they where was because they needed the room for the gun recoil and breech mechanisms. So the longer the barrel the longer the gun assembly in the tank turret so a gun that long on a KT turret would come close to actually sticking out of the back of the turret. So an " Up Gunned " KT really isn't practicle. It will look cool as hell but maybe not so believable.

Not without turning the gun sideways and cutting a hole in the back of the turret. There is also the issue of ballance, big long gun out the front = you need weight on the rear of the turret...like the super pershing. This is something that always bothered me about the small turret that was supose to go on the panther f, The turret was not much bigger than the turret ring so there was no weight to lever aganst a big gun sticking out the front.....this is a mian rason I am not using that turret on my e50 build.

That's my point, it was doable and was done on many tanks, why should the KT be any different? It's got a huge turret which looks like it could easily take a larger gun. Wasn't the upgrade to the 105mm gun planned anyway?

And yet that turret was designed specifically for the KwK42 L/100 with the option of the 88 L56. The Germans frequently modified larger guns to fit inside the tanks turret including the Tiger's 88 L56. The Russians were also quite good at turning field guns into tank guns and generally their turrets were more cramped than German ones. The E75 was designed for the gun he mentions and also for a possible up gun to the 10cm. At the time of the designs the Germans were also working on gun stabilisers, autoloaders and night vision equipment.

Regardless, the OP mentioned he was doing it for fun, not to be taken apart from rivet counters. Nice going so far Baron, if you need any pictures let me know, I have an E75 in my World of Tanks garage I can screenshot from any angle you need I think it has a 12.8cm gun on it at the moment though.

Well not to cause a ruckus over the gun choice I have made, did look into this a while back and surprisingly found allot of info on this. so let's address the concerns one at a time.

The gun won't fit: Yes it would, remember it is still a 88mm and still take up the same space inside.

The recoil would have seen the breach coming out the back of the tank:  Not true, the recoil would be just a little more but wouldn't be much of a factor. the loader would just need to stay out of the way. Just denser springs and buffers to transfer and the remanding energy to the hull.

There would need to be counter balance for the length of the gun:  Not so, The Germans had over come this with the Tiger I, By using a counter balance piston and chain to the back of the gun. Plus if you notice there is no muzzle brake, so that is less add weight.

Mustclime, I wish I could do the 45 back deck but, sadly, how Tamiya uses the air dome as a locking nut to keep the hull down I can't. It would really sale this build if I could.

STO 118, I HATE you! ; ) I so want a E75 in World of Tanks! It going to take a lifetime for me to get it!

So I hope to have this done in a few weeks so it can go to the Danville Battle at the end of the month.

Baron

Well, there where 2 88's used. One by Krupp and one by Rheinmetal. So no it wasn;t just still an 88. the Krupp gun used much shorter but fatter recoil accumulator cylinders than the Flak 43 which was a much longer assembly. I do not know which 88 you are trying to represent. the longest 88's where already in the KT's. The first used the monoblock barrel the second used the sectional monoblock barrel. Both where the same caliber. I am no KT expert but I do know a few things about the 88's. I am just trying to figure out which gun you are trying to represent. That is all. I also said that it does look cool.
Also the 105 i believe you are referring to was a howitzer. Howitzer gun assemblies are not as long as tank guns. That is a fact with the American 105.

You calling me out Panther G?!? You saying I don't know my Tanks?!? Am I going to have to drop the peoples elbow on your jabronie ass?   LOL, the gun is the 8.8 cm KwK 42 L/100. From what I can tell is close to the 8.8 cm Pak 41. As for my comment on as the same as the 88 in the king tiger was that it took up the same space as the biggest 88 that was put on the Tiger. But remember that the a tank can handle that recoil of a Main Gun with smaller recoil cylinders than that of a flak/ Pak gun. As I stated, any remaining energy will be absorbed by the tank itself. I'm glad that you approve of the look, I like it also!

Magnets, it's all about the magnets!! I've never understood the rivet counter mentality, especially on never produced tanks. Loving the look of the long 88. I've got a spare KT hull that's been earmarked for a Jagdtiger, but a 45/6 KT with a massive gun is calling me!
