Anyone ship a classic pattern kit recently? Wondering approx. what it's going to cost to ship a kit these days - I never seem to get good results using the 'estimators' from Fed Ex Ground or UPS, it usually ends up costing me much more than the estimate...

I have a mint RC City Conquest VI kit I want to put up soon on the RCU marketplace soon and hope someone has some recent experience shipping a similar model, clearly two boxes will be needed with the fuse box probably considered oversize.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

If You plan to ship international probably "USPS Priority Mail International" shipping is one of the cheapest options. I had kits shipped from US to my country, rather large boxes, and the shipping cost has always been reasonable with that.

The buyer pays shipping when I sell goods. Conversely, I let them pick the carrier that they want as long as they (the carrier) will come by my house to pick up the item to be shipped.

Hi Scott,
First, I suggest you try to get everything in one box: both Dick Hanson and R/C City would ship in a box long enough for the fuselage and tall enough for the wing cores at the root chord as they would be placed vertically (usually TE on the bottom) on either side of the fuselage. Stab and rudder cores are easy to add along with additional packing material (peanuts, bubble wrap or whatever). I have shipped a couple of kits (similar in size to your Conquest) in one box via FedEx ground recently and the cost was between $35 and $40 for each. I know that the shipping charge for the Focus Sport (110 size) was a flat $50. About a year ago I tried shipping in separate boxes and it was cheaper to go with one larger box (another 60 sized pattern kit).
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Will

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will find one box and pack it very carefully. Would hate to see a classic damaged in transit.

I have shipped a few, built and not built. Last one, a Horizon P-7 ARF, NIB, with an OS 61SF in the box. UPS and FedEx Ground, were within 77 cents of each other. From my home in Florida, 28 miles north of West Palm Beach, on the coast, zip 33455, to a town in MD, $68.00, with $500.00 insurance. Took 7 days. A Piedmont Focus Sport ARF, NIB, with a NIB YS115 in the box, $97.00 to southern CA, $700.00 insurance. A built Tipo fuselage, with engine and NG retract attached, to CA, I think it was close to $180.00, plus insurance, UPS. It had a custom made box, which had the bent stab and rudder on it, messed up the girth. Mach I to Sacramento, CA, $122.00 plus insurance. Many more shipped. If you list an engine on the waybill, it can be a problem, last time I did that, they wanted me to fill out EPA forms, and visually inspect the inside of the box, to make sure there is no fuel on board. Shipped many engines, best luck with USPS Priority. If you are shipping a kit, I recommend insurance and delivery confirmation. Never had a damage problem. As far as using all shippers online figuring, I have never had any luck coming up with the correct amount. Best to package up, take it to the shipper, get the cost, then notify your buyer, unless this is done first. What do you want for the Conquest VI ?
Flywilly, did I tell you about a C-6 on the west coast of FL ?
