Quite unexpected model, but happy to see that they abandoned the easy way of producing just variants of their existing models.

My guess is the F.O. electronics won't get any substantial improvement, though.

I had been watching for a while at the JS-2 model from Modellbau Schmiede, but I think I will wait for the Tamiya model, now.

Hey, chalk one up for the Allies (I think), but I'd really like to see a British tank too.

OK, now we are talking.

This tank should be received well and the sale figures indicative of this market. If this tank does not sell well and provide a pleasant surprise for Tamiya then we have no one else to blame but ourselves. This is a tank that has been on the top or part of everyone's wish list for quite some time. My hope is that Tamiya actually gets surprised by the sales numbers, and start to focus on us a bit more.

The manufactures for the most part have been giving us duplicates, or rereleases that no one has really asked for. This however is different. I want one of these.

It is a re-hash, I'm sure it'll be a IS-2 upper hull and turret on the KV-1/2 lower hull.  That means wrong road wheels, sprocket, and track amoung lower hull dimension inaccuracies.  Guessing Frank should expect lots of orders on his IS-2 wheels.  Still glad to see Tamiya coming out with new products, but I'm with F, like to see something british or maybe a Samoua.

Tamiya wouldn't do that would they?

Very Very DISAPPOINTED. EPIC fail, they picked an allied tank but still they missed the bus as a T-34\76 would have made their sales sky rocket. What is wrong with their sales\marketing department.

What a great piece of news! Will buy one, of course!
ISU-152 would be released as well, I hope.

The JS-2 will be in the shelfs by february. The price in YEN is the same as the others tanks (except sherman and abrams leopard)

Well if mato cover the t-32 in metal and Tamiya have the js-2 then that's a pretty good Russian line up! Just need conversion kits for the tank destroyers. But mainly your missing the point that this is a new Tamiya! They haven't completely given up on us and this is a model I've wanted for a while!

As usual the tank has not even been seen yet and we have people complaining so what if Tamiya uses the same hull just so long as it’s to scale and all parts are correct what is the problem did the Russians themselves do the same? (I actually have no idea if the dimensions are the same)

I’m sure that either a T34 or a British tank will be in the pipeline after Tamiya realises the IS 152.

Mordock, simple reason why up till now Tamiya have not built an Abram’s, sales would be low and Tamiya would have to pay royalties, the Bunbeswher commissioned the Leopard 2A6, so if you want to see an Abram’s get the US army to dig deep I’m sure they would be overjoyed to send money to Japan, but if you really wanted one there is a conversion kit in Germany and the 1/16 basic model that has been around for years .

I just can’t wait to see all the threads with the following titles “Where can I get an IS2” or “Why can’t I buy an IS2 now” I suspect this will not be available until early/mid 2013

Always there will be individuals not happy with Tamiya releases. But everyone must be happy that Tamiya still releases.

Agreed! I'll be getting one too. Nice to see some Sov heavies to go head to head with the Tigers. Wonder if they'll slow down the reload time as on the prototype?

Okay Rivetcounter. Can you point me to who in Germany makes this Conversion Kit?

Also, I disagree, I think a M-1 Abrams WOULD sell well here in the USA and well as its opponent, the T-72.

Heh. Seems like You WWII guys have Tamiya's ear. I think its time some of us "Modern Warfare" Folks got got the act and begin a persistent writing campaign to Tamiya.

Not the IS-152, but the ISU-152 is likely to come after the JS-2, sharing the same lower hull and half of the top one. Frank from modellbau schmiede was also working on it.

Although no new release will make everyone happy, I think any new tank from Tammy is a good thing for the hobby.
I also think YHR is exactly right, we vote with our wallets.

Guys, there's plenty of time to bash Tamiya for inaccuracies *after* we see photographs of the actual item. For now, the fact that Tamiya hasn't completely abandoned 1/16th RC F-O tanks is reason enough to celebrate.

Yep, need to see it first. All I know is that I am starting the JS II savings fund so I can buy it in February or March.
