Hi vdubsport,

We recommend taking what you have now and running bracket class. That way you'll get a feel for the hobby/sport and get a chance to see what other gals and guys are running before you start spending hard-earned cash. There are two IMDRA record holders and 2006 World Finals champions living in the greater Phoenix area. We're thinking they go to the MHRA track in San Bernardino, CA for RC drag racing. Not sure there is anything local for you yet. Check with your LHS.

Our first drag race car was a conversion project. FWIW and IOHO, based on experience, we feel a newcomer is far better off purchasing a drag-specific chassis than attempting a conversion. Hope this helps. Have fun.

It's cheaper to buy a drag vehicle then converting something into one. But it's sure fun to do it. I'm assuming yours is electric and based on that assumption just going to a high kv brushless and lipo setup, will get you on your way. This coming Sunday here in houston is the 1/18 scale Test and Tune your dragrace. So there are quite a few that are into it. I'll take some pics and post them, so you can see what it's all about and what they run.

Take out the front shocks, or run skinnier rims.

i have some carbon fiber flat pieces laying around i could cut some out of, it would be cool if i could see a good front set up and get my rear end setup better so i could pop wheels with it. it running a 10 turn in it now, would like to put a brushless set up in, if i get the car running good.

hmm, that looks good man. All I would do is get the brushless setup and you'll be rocket. I would get the brushless setup and work from there. Because whatever the setup is now with the brushed motor, will not work with the brushless setup.

Do u know a decent brushless setup that wont break the bank, also i still might mod the front suspension setup and change the stearing config to lighten up the front end any ideas on the rear end like lock the diff.

The steering config in the first pic, is what I see on most dragsters. Cheapest brushless that is great for dragracing is the mamba setup. Makes it easy to control your traction and braking on different surfaces.

heheheh, I see you found the pics I posted.

The problem with that setup....you are limited to a certain weight and tire size. But I believe you can make up the difference with a lower kv motor and higher voltage. With your setup, you can go to bigger tire size and gain some topend. It's also nice to see something different at a race. I'm the only one with an aluminium truck that dragrace and it amazes people how fast that heavy thing can go.

so u think my setup so fair looks pretty good, just add a brushless setup and run what u brong. the wheels on it are off of a super nitro in the rear, the only thing i really want to change is the stearing in the front because its really shakey when u go fast and never really liked it when i race it in touring classes. some one at the lhs said to get better traction to use rootbeer on dishsoap dilluted with water.

Yes, your setup looks pretty good. Fix your steering. Check for anything that has too much play in them and replace it. Or configure it differently. You also might not have enough downforce in the front later on when you go brushless. This guy about 2 weeks ago, just lifted off the ground(3-4 feet) from sheer speed. He didn't have enough downforce. So try adding some weight to the front, like your moving your electronics.

I say run with your current rear end. AC runs a belt drive in his dragger and does well with it.

Looking good. I too am converting a 4-tec over to a drag race ride. Your front axle hubs can be cut back some to take some more weight off the front end. There is too much steel hanging inside the steering arms still. Cut it way back.

For my rear diff, I took it apart and JB welded it all-together.
