Status: offline 		My new Ultimate 20-300 arrived today by UPS in two large boxes. Excellent job at packing, no missing or damage parts. The black and red looks really good and the covering is top notch. This is my second AW plane, I have been flying the 50cc Extra 260 for about one year. I am looking for a gas engine, other than the DA50, with more power (MVVS 58 pro sport, Evolution 58, ZDZ60). Looking forward to seeing other Ultimates and the engines they use.

Nice, I was waiting to see if anyone received theirs yet.

You can also look at the MT-57 for power. Thats what I am going to use.
There is an extensive thread on another site about the engine. Results are very positive.
There is also a video floating around of a guy flying a Sukhoi at 18lbs. The thing rockets out of a hover like it got kicked in the rear end.

The Goldberg is just a tad bigger, but remember Ultimates are Dirty little Airplanes that love Horse Power, No! They have got to have it to fly right. and that DA 85 is much lighter than my 3W. I am not saying the 85 is the right choice for this plane just a fun thought. Maybe that MT 57 is a good choice, just dont under power this thing. I think that the DA 50 is the bare mininum and it should be built as light as possible if a 50 is to be used.

I have to agree with you there.
I have a Dave Patrick Ultimate, 60 inch wing span.
I just put an OS160fx in it. Stupid power for a 12 lb airframe. I LIKE IT.

I have the ZDZ Super 80 and love it, if the 60 is anything like the 80 it will be a power house.

Status: offline 		Last time I spoke with Mike Dooley at RCShowcase they were out of the 60's and not expecting to get anymore. He recommended the newer 50ng which makes close to the same power and is much lighter. I got the impression that the 60 is being discontinued because of this and the fact that it was built on the same case as the older 80rv. I have an old 60 that is in very good shape that I will be using on my Ultimate though!

Status: offline 		Ok then! It's Back to the Da 85 concept.... only if the 85 was 3lb - Bummer! For Real though - I just watched the video @ AW and it seems to fly well and I assume it only has a DA 50 in her???

Status: offline 		In the video the Plane dose fly well and is dose hover but, you don’t see it pull striate up to get out of the hover? It looks like it is being flown around at near full throttle?? Maybe not? Watch it again You tell me.

Status: offline 		The back and forth passes were more IMAC style, probably to show how the plane draws a nice straight line.
The Rolling harrier looked and sounded like any other . The pull out fom the hover I agree, seemed a little anemic.
But then again there were no clouds or back ground to have any type of reference to see what the acceleration was like.
The weight for this one is listed as very similar to the Python. I know a couple of guys that had Pythons with DA50's. They said pull out was slow and that a bit more power would have been nice.

Status: offline 		Yes, I am a little spoiled here on Camp Pendleton. Very hard to fly anywhere but here because of our runway is 1000’ long X 150’ wide and the wind comes off the ocean right down the middle of the runway 90% of the time. I don’t think I could land anywhere else. Scary thought! Please feel free to come fly as my guest anytime!

If you can't get the ZDZ maybe you should consider a 3W, they are awesome engines also, I know that Aircraft International would more than likely have them. Check out the website. http://www.aircraftinternational.com I had one of the 3W55us and it was a stump puller!

Status: offline 		I really don't think that the 3w 85 is any difference in weight than the DA 85.....

when da came out with there da 50, you should have seen all the items they took off it to get down to that weight
(plug,carb,standoffs, and other things)

unless someone has actually weighed the two engines side by side, all read to run, you really don't know the weights...

Status: offline 		Thanks Gregman50, that was very helpful info.. I like the ZDZ60, it looks like a real good match. The 3W engine looks good also, but the length of the carb looks like you will have to modify the motor box. I ironed the covering on the Ultimate, excellent covering job.

Status: offline 		The motor box hole will also need to be enlarged for the MT-57.
The carb will pass the firewall by at least a 1/2 inch.
Once i receive my plane, I will post photos when i get to that stage.
