Default Rat Shack 4x4

Another yard sale find...Decided to keep this one simple,...lock the diffs & upgrade to H/G electronics,but.....
This is the hardest one I have modded yet...

Diff assembly also has a slipper gear that needs to be locked, which makes it a real pain to work with

A lot of cutting to get an H/G servo & steering links installed...

Also had to remove a bit from the chassis to fit the modded axle..

Rear axle...A bit easier to work on,but a lot of gears to keep track of...

Still a bit too fast for crawler, but makes a pretty cool little trail rig

I think it would be fun to turn it into a super crawler and add another gear to make it lower gear?

Due to the way this one is designed,it would be a major pain to add another gear[]...although, a GRU or gearmotor might work.

I used a pro-pulse motor in my 2wd version of the same of the similar chassis:
Are you still on the stocker?

But I left the diff clutch alone, don't want to take any chances of blowing the gears.

My son has the same truck as yours, but with a chevy avalanche body and hi & low switchable from the transmitter.
The 2wd version is quite a bit easier to add a real servo.

The new bright jeep body looks pretty good on it, but I think the factory pick up body could look good if you remove all the stickers and paint it.

I just used a side cutters to pry the stock brass pinion off. I'm pretty sure the original motor is wrecked because I was'nt carfull. Then I just pressed the original pinion on the pro-pulse motor. But! if I were to do it again, I'd put a dab of JB weld on the shaft. The propulse motor shaft is a bit shorter, and has the flat spot machined into it for a set screw. So the brass press on gear slid on a little looser then it should have. But so far it's holding up with no glue.
I did have to oval out the mounting screw holes, the motors have different screw spacing.

I've modded a couple of those chassis from rat shack. Has anyone figured out a way to replace/eliminate that stupid plastic diff that is in there? On my first truck it was RWD only and would pull wheelies all day becuase I locked the diff but it eventually ate the diff. Also another question, what size is the motor that got swapped into it? Is it about the same size as a 1/10 scale car/truck?

what would you look for in replacement wheels? ive got the exact same truck and would like to mod it or even just get it going. the wheels are all cracked from the weather and age.it was stored under neath the house and we consistently got upper 30 and 40 degree heat and it sat there for three years. are they hex axels and if so what size?
