Default NB Crawler mods, 4th gear 4 wheel steering

With some much appreciated helpmy dark crawler now has a 4 th gear installed in the front and rear axle (4 th gear installed is 46 tooth by 10 tooth). I also have received a few extra parts to fix my 4 wheel steering project. Also went with a friend's tred pattern in cutting the stock tires, removing all the larger lugs from the tires and slightly shaving sidewalls of tires. Ihave also put together clear plastic covers above the 4 th gear mod in each axle to keep out the possible rock, tree branch or piece of ice. Front shocks are mounted at an angle for better articulation, new hummer body prevents mounting rear shocks at angle without drilling holes in body for now.. Hummer body has removable back hatch cover and looks very good on the crawler body in my opinion.

To get the 4 wheel steering mod, I installed a front steering axle in the back of the crawler, splicing in the servo wires with polarity reversed to achieve proper servo direction. Motor wire polarity on new rear axle must also be reversed (- to + and + to -) to get the motor turning with the front axle as opposed to in the turning in the opposite direction.

I have not gotten a chance to test out dark crawler's new potential because everything is covered in at least an inch of snow!! Once spring hits and things thaw out I will try to get some pics and let you know how all the new mods function on some good rocks.

Thanks to Cobra69!

Few more pics of the Hummer body from a donor Nikko Hummer I got at the flea market. Nice eagle sticker on the top and it comes complete with an American Flag sticker on drivers side front window!

Texx,

I don't really know how to load video's, cobra69 has described it to me, I just havn't looked into it any further.  In Utah, we have the self-proclaimed "greatest snow on earth"! I cruise around my snowmobile frequently, I have another project that is fun to drive in the snow, I have not posted pics of it yet.. It has paddle tires on the rear and is only 2 wheel drive but is fast through the snow.  Thanks for the compliments Texx and Cobra, if I ever get some time and motivation I will try to post a video.  Took dark crawler out in the snow for the first time today since the trimming of the tires and since the 4 wheel steering mod has been repaired (thanks again Cobra69!!).  It does well through the snow and does ok over the small rocks around the house, for them being soaking wet and covered in snow!!  I was suprised at the difference in traction after trimming the larger lugs off of the stock tires  Next step for dark crawler is suspension work to achieve more articulation, but not too much articulation, which can be a bad thing (thanks once again Cobra69).

RCTOYOTAMAN, you need a pair of gears, one for each axle to be geared down.  If I told you, I would have to kill you[:-]  Just kidding, they came from a new and very smart friend of mine  If you don't want to pay about 10 dollars a gear if you can find them from a supplier, your best bet that I have found and read about is to take apart used r/c toys until you find a pair that is suitable for the mod..
