I would start by using wire leads to make sure each motor works. Just attach the leads to a good battery and then to the terminals on the motor after you unhook it from the esc. If they work then your problem may be the esc.

If your steering works plug the esc into the steering port on your receiver and see if that will send a signal to the esc. And are you getting any lights on the esc? It should change colors if the esc is getting a signal.

If the esc shows a signal and the motors work then the esc must be bad. You have already tested the motors and radio so the only things left are the esc and battery's. But if your battery's can power the motors and servos then it has to be the esc. When setting up the new esc did you set the max throttle and brake? Even if you didn't I would think that the volt meter would still pick something up. If you recently bought a new esc then you might want to return it or send it to the manufacturer if its under warranty.

something is not adding up here? i really doubt 2 esc's are going to have the same problem, allthough it is possible. go over all the basics. are the motors wired properly?

By the sounds of things he has brushed motors. So it would be very hard to wire it up in a way that they don't respond to the esc. Unless he has not reconnected the motors to the esc.

i know this sounds crazy but maybe he has one polarity backwards, causing them to fight each other? i really doubt that though as he would hear them fighting each other

In that case I think the spur gear would probably break. But it could be the case.

Doesn't that maxx take two completely different motors? One reverse and one forward motor?

If two motors are trying to spin the same plastic gear in opposite directions, there is a good chance of stripping some teeth.

If the mesh was good they would never strip a spur gear. If two motors can't strip a spur gearwhen you hold the truck down with the slipper locked, they won't strip it trying to run in opposite directions.
