Default kershaw 700 HO

Ok so I'm thinking of going with the Kershaw 700 HO motor conversion. But here's some questions for you guys. Should I do the dual motor conversion or just the single. I'd like to have the extra power of both. But is it worth the extra battery drain and strain on my esc.

Also does anyone have this setup yet if so how do you like it. I don't need a super fast e maxx but come on lets face it we all like to go fast.

Let me know what you guys think on this subject.

But is the Hobbywing bl system waterproof. I wanna be able to play in the snow mud and water and not fry everything. How durable is it? Can it handle a beating?

No it's not. Your going to hear a lot of people say "just go brushless". Don't listen. I have both and both are great, but the KD700's are good motors. My 3905 Emaxx with 68t spur and 25t (included with the kit) pinion, my truck did 32 mph with gobs of torque. I could roll the truck off of a 2 foot ledge and backflip it. AND to break them in, you sumberge them in water.

You didn't say whether you had the 3906 or the newer models (which are all about the same), but I'm assuming because you want waterproof that you've got the newer one. The EVX2 will get hot and will trip the thermal shutdown. Depending on where you live will take anywhere from 10 minutes to 25 minutes. You can just get a $3 10mm brushless fan off of ebay and use small self tapping screws to screw it to the heatsink. It's also waterproof. Problem solved.

Anyway, it's a good setup and Dan at kershawdesigns is really good with customer service so if you want/need something, he's on top of it.

1 motor vs 2 motors. Honestly with the same gearing you will go the same top speed (obviously), BUT, I say go with the dual. Much more torque. As far as battery life, I was running 2 7 cell 5000mah and got run times anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes depending on driving.

Hope this helped!

If you waterproof the Esc on the hobbywing system, you'l be fine, its very simple to do. But the hobbywing system once waterproofed is bulletproof, and hellaciously powerful, I beat the hell outa the 80A hobbywing esc, and Ive had no issues, really though dont bother with brushed motors, brush less is the way to go

LOL I'll just say it. Everything he said is true. Hobbywings, though cheap, are great esc's. I have 2.

I have a pair of the KD 700HO's on an E-Revo. Running on a pair of 2S LiPo's the truck has been clocked at 36 mph which is plenty fast for this truck. Anything more is really kind of unnecessary. The other great part is the motors run cool at about 160F. The ESC did run a little hot so I cut a couple of holes in the windshield to let some fresh air in and temps dropped almost 30F on the ESC and 10F on the motors. This might not be necessary on an E-Maxx but the body of the Revo fits tight and there was no air flow under it.

Best part is these motors make enough torque that I can get the truck rolling at 20+ mph and pin the throttle and do wheelies for as far as I want.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll be doing the dual conversion soon as I have burned up yet another crappy pair of titans even with 13t pinions on it. Can't wait to get it up and running again. I'll be running them on 8.4v dtx 4600mah batteries for now though. I might run lipos later but I just bought the ones I have and a new dual charger for them. I'll try to get some pics up later when I start getting it all switched over. I have a few nice mud pics. I think I have enough air flow under my truck I'm running a gravedigger body.

Sorry for the loss of your mother John.

I'm glad to hear the KD700 system is a good one. I just ordered the dual motor kit yesterday!

James, Post up some shots of it when you get it

Nice! When you can barely see the paint, you know you're onto something.

One other question I had on the KD 700 motors. What kinda motors do you need for these things to run up to par. I've been running a set of 8.4v dtx 4600mah batteries. Will these pack enough of a punch for them motors. I don't wanna go lipo cause of the cost and most lipos aren't waterproof. I'd have to buy a charger and lipo batteries and bla bla bla......

Those should be fine. I was running 8.4v 5000's and it had really good punch.
