RE: New to R/C and E Revo
Is there any real benefit either way in terms of hard case batteries or not? And would it be worth it or beneficial to change from the stock pinion if I order a new spur gear anyways? Looking for something else to buy cause I don't really want to spend more on shipping than the order is even worth.

Hard case is always good to go with. You just get more protection. Even though the E-revo has an enclosed battery box. You can use the protection in diff cars if you get them

i don't think it matters if it's hard case or soft in that situation! If the Lipo is going to puff it's going to puff. But i could be wrong

In my opinion, the only reason to buy hard case, is if your track rules require it (many do), or if you find soft packs are getting physically damaged in your model. Soft packs are inherently smaller, not having a big cse, which means more capacity per available space, plus they are fractionally lighter and cheaper mAh for mAh. I only own 4 hard packs, all 2s specifically bought for racing (ROAR/EFRA compliant), my other 10 or so batts are all soft.

I would stick with the stock 18T pinion and the stock 54T spur for now. That will give you plenty of speed and power with 4s or 6s LiPos until you get to know the truck a lot better.
And you should not do any other gearing changes (different spur or pinion) without getting a temp gun. You can fry your electronics in a heartbeat if you don't monitor temps during gearing changes.

Alright here is a stupid question for someone, I'm trying to change the spur gear but I cannot get the current one out. I've got a bunch of screws and different parts out now and still can't get the spur out. There is a ridge in the bottom of the frame part and I can't get the spur higgh enough to get out of the ridge. Any help please.
And I bought this truck used, and now that I've taken a few pieces off, it looks like it only has 2 slipper clutch pads. Any thoughts on that?

Take the bottom skid plate off. And then loosen or remove the 4 screws (whatever get the tranny lifted up high enough) and then you should be able to take the spur off

Well, I finally figured out how to change the spur. And considering I know all of nothing about these things thats a start I suppose haha. Next question I have is how to know how tight to have to spur and pinion together. I don't have any of the instruction manuals or anything so I have no idea with this either. Thanks again. And I don't think that you could get just the slipper pads so here's the rebuild kitwww3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p

Thanks for the video and link but I ended up finding the other slipper pad thankfully. Hopefully be able to take my truck out tomorrow and see how the new batteries and gear ratio make it run.

Haha ya but the shipping off that site costs me $20 minimum. I have 18 pinion and 54 spur.

What is a good brand of charger for Lipo batteries? Is it worth trying to find one that has storage settings for lipo batteries? Thanks for any information.

What is your budget for the charger? Yes, get a full function LiPo charger. But the majority of chargers out there today will have a balance, fast charge, storage, and discharge function on it, so don't get too hung up in the weeds on the features. Let us know what you're looking to spend and we can help you narrow it down.

Ideally I wouldn't want to spend any more than maybe $200 or so. I have a Duratrax one tight now but I don't think it has any storage settings or anything like that.

Some people say to stay away from the storage settings cause it's not good for the batteries. I don't know if that's true or not. But if you want to store the lipo you charge it to 40% of the MAH capacity and i think that's it

If you want to spend less than $200, check out the icharger series. They have some pretty soiid chargers too.
