hey guys,

im new to the hobby and would like some advise on my next purchase. I currently have a stampede 4x4 vxl that is pretty much been bullet proofed that me and my son rip around with and im looking to get another monster truck so we can both play. ive been looking at some used and beefed up emaxx's. I'm wondering if I should get an emaxx for my self and pass the stampede down to my son or should I just get a new brushed stampede 4x4 for him and get a brushless set up later. we don't drive on any asphalt or roads, only gravel pits and grass. I really like to jump and abuse my truck. my son can handle my stampede quite well on 2s. with all that in mind, what should I do? the emaxx im looking at is around the $600 range and includes 2 2s batteries and a momba monster 2 2650kv set up.

thanks for your time

I'd like to try the Axial yeti XL for some crazy off roading.

Not only is the Emaxx more expensive to buy, it'll also cost you a lot more in upgrades. I have a soft spot for Maxx trucks but they really do need a significant investment do be able to handle hard use. Rpm arms, rpm or aluminum bulkheads, shock towers, skid plates, cvd's etc. The Emaxx diffs are the same as those used in the Stampede 4x4 (outdrives have reduced diameter) yet the truck is heavier and more powerful. Properly shimmed they can hold up pretty well, but there's a reason people put real 1/8 size buggy diffs in Maxx trucks. Unless you really want the size of the Emaxx I say stick with the Stampede 4x4. You can get similar power with a Castle SCT 2400kv system in the pede 4x4.

You also don't want a Castle 1512 2650kv in an Emaxx. The 1512 2650kv is a shorter motor than the 1515 2200kv, meaning it has less torque and is meant for a lighter buggy. Small motor in a heavy vehicle equals more heat.

thanks for the opinions, I ended up getting a Summit. So far its been great other than it could use a bit more power, but I think ill take care of that next spring.

The summit looks like a good machine, but if I'd caught this before you purchased I would have said go with another stampede so you can order some spare parts and it wouldn't matter who's truck breaks first
