Default stupid pull start

i was bashing around in sunday when i tried starting my t maxx after it stalled.the pull cord stayed all the way out and wouldnt coil back up.then right in the middle of nowhere i had to sit on the ground and rip off my engine and pull starter to see what was wrong and as soon as i pulled off the pull starter the son of a ***** coiled it self and then i put it back on and strapped it back in my maxx and it got stuck again so i had to take it off and sure **** it ravelled up again.its got me puzzled.it seems fine now but i just couldnt figure it out.any ideas?

Exact same thing happened to me a little while ago. I put some grease on both the one-way bearing and inside the housing for the one-way bearing in the pull start. Never had the problem again. I think there is something wrong with the 2.5 pull starts.

Also make sure that you are not tightening the screws for the pull-start down too tight onto the motor. This will cause that to happen too.

Later...

I thought you wern't supposed to oil the one way. [sm=confused.gif] I've always cleaned off the glaze when I had trouble starting it.

I know it sucks but that made me laugh how you kept taking it apart. So is pull start better than EZstarter ? I have a pull but I have never used a EZstart.

My ez start usually lasts for several outings, but I also use a glow igniter instead of the blue wire. I have 2 cheapo packs for the ez start, so I always have a fully charged spare.

zeroc, did you try turning the fly wheel? most of the time it snaps back into place. next time dont pull the pull start so far out and it wont get stuck.

This is the only way to go. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGFK1&P=7 You will still need a glow charger and a drill or a roto start. Alot less headaches.
