RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
You have to be able to set the end points with a digital servo or you risk burning it up.
If you want to stay analog, I would suggest looking at the Airtronics brands. They have a couple of high quality analog servos that put out 200oz and have a very fast .10s sweep. I know several people that run Airtronics 358s with metal gear conversions in their truggies and they are really nice servos.

RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
Hey guys- FWI: You should go with the 5955TG and not the 5995TG for this application. First off the 5955 offers a heatsink case which helps the servos durability and it is set to standard travel out of the box for the same price. With the 5995 robot servo you have to reduce your EPA's which will cause you to lose resolution (steps in the travel) so it will not be as smooth.
The biggest advantage of the 5955TG vs any other servo on the market is that it develops its power so much sooner in the travel. It's putting out over 200in/oz just off of center, where most servos take almost half the sweep to get up to 70% of their maximum torque. This will make the vehicle much more responsive with small inputs.
If you are looking at an analog servo, the new 985MG offers the same performance of the Air't 358. Yes, the 985MG is rated at .13sec@172in/oz vs. .10sec@200in/oz but Air't uses a fully charged 5 cell pack + 10% to rate their servos where Hitec uses 6V even. Both servo on the same test rig showed the same results. Compare for yourself and see... Hitec/Futaba, and JR servos will be rated .03sec slower than an equal speed Airtronics. So .13sec Hitec/Futaba/JR = .10sec Airtronics.
Mike.

Almost every radio can handle digital servos; you just need to make sure to use a good battery with them like a 5 cell 1100+mah. Alkaline batteries will not work for the receiver and high powered servos.

I use one of the stock steering servos and they turn the wheels all the way when its on the ground. but th really doesnt mean ne thing except its power full. more of a bragging write. in besides its mostly the driver. timing is key to everything. but my truggy gets a 645mg i think..dunno buts it turns my tires fast as helll

RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
Are you guys sure that it needs all that torque?
I'm using one Hitec 625MG on steering and one on the engine/brake.
94oz metal gear at 0.15 and it's working like a charm.

yes and yes. I assume you are planning on using the 645 for throttle and the 5955 for steering?

RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
currently I'm using the stock dual-servo setup which works ok, though I'm considering getting the 5955. if I do it won't be for a while but it is tempting...

RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
Do you mean the HSR 5995...? This one: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHZS1&P=ML
The robot servo...? With the plastic outer case?
The HSC models are perhaps the same price and specific for RC therefore somewhat better for this context, the 5955 has more than enough torque for the throttle and the HSC 5997 has over and about 333.29oz.in of torque on a 6v flat pack, which, is a bit over kill but more than enough for any mosnter truck. Its also totally programmable and more than fast enough. Also with the Titanium gears, its a bit lighter and more than strong enough to handle any almost all situations under intellegent use. Also I thought the 5995 was somewhat discontinued at most places...? Could be wrong.
With the same price range there abouts and similar specs, I would go the HSC model.

RE: What Single Steering Servo Do Yous Use
The 5955 is great for the throttle although you can use it for the steering of course, as it was designed for. But I put the more beefier 5997 on for the steering just to give it some serious balls, and for the same price, why not.
