What New Engine For A Revo 3.3
Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting a new engine for my race Revo 3.3 but I'm not sure which would probably be my best way to go. I want to keep the stock mounts and I don't want to do a big block conversion either. The only one I can think personally is an OS 18TM so that's why I'm asking you guys what you think. Thanks for the advice/opinions guys.

what about a rb tm523, they should drop right in. they come with an engine mount, header, and pipe. here's a link

That RB engine does look good but I'm not sure about the fuel consumption and efficiency of it. I'm also worried about weight that's why I wanted to stay with something the same size as the 3.3 engine but...I dunno because I don't even know the weight of the 3.3.

I'm also worried about blowing out or stripping gears with an engine that's too powerful. I guess I could use carb restrictors but that kind of defeats the purpose of the engine.

the 3.3 is 350ish grams, that RB is 380 grams, as for efficiency, that RB is more efficient then the 3.3, more of the energy in the fuel get's converted into power, and as for spurs, it's the same as with any engine, if you have the mesh set properly you'll never blow a spur gear.
that rb is a .23, the stock engine is .20.

18tz puts out a wee bit more power and comes ready for a bump start. Same price as the 18tm.

Thanks for the info guys I'll keep it all in mind but I just found a few air leaks here and there and discovered my carb wasn't opening all the way The 3.3 might get a couple more months of use out of it. To think I thought it was fast the way it was...

RE: What New Engine For A Revo 3.3
i run an RB TM523 in my revo for 4 gallons before it sucked dirt in, no drive train problems, not for me anyway, although i did replace the drive shafts once i cracked the yolks on the two rear ones, which wasn't till after 9 gallons on the truck in total, not bad going.
the .18 TZ is a great engine, but you need to grind a few of the cooling fins off of the crankcase to get it to fit into a revo engine mount, if your willing to do that, go for it, you will be happy with the tz.

you can use a starter box with any engine that doesn't use the new era big block engine mount basically, and a lot of engines (the TRX 3.3, RB TM523 included) you can buy a bump start back plate for to get rid of the starter shaft.
but, as it's been said most engines O.S are quality, the VG line of engines on the other hand are not quality (steer clear of them) and the .21 TM is way over priced ATM, other then them, they're all go.

RE: What New Engine For A Revo 3.3
Well, I'll see how the 3.3 runs today at the track after fixing the tank and carb leaks as well as realizing the carb wasn't going WOT(Wide open throttle for those that don't know...). I'll probably go with the 18TZ once spring hits but I'll keep the RB in mind because I have to keep up with my buddies Losi Eight T which isn't easy on a high speed track but I kill him through the turns just because I'm a better driver but that's not saying much lol. Hopefully I'll get my pictures working of my Revo later on today, I'm proud of the work I've done to it

RE: What New Engine For A Revo 3.3
Oh and guess what happened today? The piston rod or connecting rod snapped today I think it was running way too rich or something because I wasn't revving it high and it wasn't lean so I don't know how else it could have happened. It was cold after it died so I don't know... it's very odd because it ran great yesterday.
Looks like I'll be getting an RB TM523 real soon.

RE: What New Engine For A Revo 3.3
both engine weights i used were with the stock flywheel and clutch setup, the 3.3 is about 30 grams lighter.
i think traxxas will warranty that 3.3, if anything see if you can either get your 3.3 fixed or get a brand new one in it's place, sell that 3.3 to fund the RB... traxxas usually have excellent customer support so i think your chances of getting it warrantied are high.
