Default engine drop-in

Is a 2.5(not the R version) a direct drop-in to a .15 model? I might be able to get a 2.5 from a friend running or not for $10, it was given to him. I need to know if that would be a direct drop-in into my .15 t-maxx.

Thanks.

The exaust manifold is different, and throtle linkage. The tranny is the same, motor mount, clutch bell are all the same. Flywheel is the same but has a different nut on it.
Easy start or pull is different.
Good luck.

Yea I forgot about exhaust but still for 10$ I'd convert it. Keep adding on and work your way to putting a 3.3 on that bad boy [>:]

It is NOT a direct drop in. You can get a conversion kit from Traxxas, Tower or on e-bay - they're usually around $25 I think. That will take care of everything except the starter system.
I've done it too and contrary to what crazy8t said. I thought the performance increase was worth the effort, And no real problems from the upgrade.
If the 2.5 runs then it's worth the $10. If it does not run then, IMHO, it's worth is as a paperweight. Absolutely not worth rebuilding or doing an exchange because you can get them new off e-bay for less than the engine exchange program.
If you want a good engine to put in that truck check out the OS.18 CV-RX(s). That's about as close to a direct drop in hop-up engine as you'll find.

Actually, the transmission in the Pro.15 and the 2.5 versions are the same except for the way the primary shaft connects together. The internal gears are all identical and interchangeable. You can see for yourself at Traxxas website. They provide blow-up diagrams and parts lists free.

Yes, it will fit IF you get the conversion kit - which comes with a new tuned pipe, manifold, bellcrank, and linkage kit.

Everything else (except the starting system) will transfer from the Pro.15 to the 2.5/2.5r/3.3 including the motor mount, flywheel and clutch shoes.
You will have to get a pull start or ez-start system (including a new owb) that is compatible with the 2.5/2.5r/3.3 as the one from the Pro.15 will not fit the 2.5/2.5r/3.3 engines.

For the record, anything that fits externally on a 2.5 will also fit the 2.5r AND the 3.3
