Default Undercarriage protection

I've taken a look at my new Revo 3.3 and the undercarriage seems to be quite exposed, actually very exposed. Dirt and water can easily come in to the diff, servos, brakes, etc.

The undercarriage of the Buggies is for example typically very well protected.

Is it possible to buy an undercarriage protection for the Revo 3.3? have you made your own undercarriage protection?

Or is it completely nonsense to add extra protection to the undercarriage? What is your experience?

Default RE: Undercarriage protection

I can't say as I have had any problems breaking anything underneath due to how the Revo is designed. I am pretty sure most people haven't had many issues either. If you think you need more protection Vantage has a product that you may like link below.

Interesting link.

I found a picture [link=http://www.vantageracing.com/site/v2-products.html]Armor mounted on a Revo 3.3[/link] where it is possible to see the Armor mounted on the Revo 3.3. I am sure that the Armor will make the Revo more robust for bashing but dirt and water may still get very easily into the diff, servos and brakes.

I was thinking more like a cover [link=http://www.vantageracing.com/site/v2-images/images/JA0301.jpg]chassis for Jatto[/link]. I know this one is a chassis and it is only for Jatto but is it possible to find something similar for Revo 3.3 so most of the chassis is protected?

I can hear from you that extra undercarriage protection may not be necessary.

Default RE: Undercarriage protection

Since I couldn't find anything that matched my requirements I decided to make my own undercarriage protection.

I took the lid of a plastic box and cut it to fit the chassis of the Revo. It is fixed at the front with one screw and at the back with two screws.

It is far from a bullet proof protection but at least it will keep out some of the dirt and water out of my Revo [sm=49_49.gif]

hey thats a pretty nice set up there. that'll come in handy with dirt. but usually if you land on your wheels nothing is going to hit underneath it.

Water isn't a issue if you water proof or get water resistant or proof servos, I don't think you will have problems if get the brake and diffs wet & dirty.

Nice template!

What Ive experienced is that you might also wanna cover the rectangular hole under the clutchbell. I have mananaged to get small stones jammed between the clutchbell and the frame.

Anyone think that the extra gap around the hinge pins may adversly affect reliability? Just a thought.

Nothing fancy, just power point and "save as" *.jpg.
The default resolution is too low. You may want change the .jpg resolution of power point. Here can you read how to do it:

I don't think the extra gap itself will jeopardize reliability. The screws are long enough. What concerns me is the "undercarriage protection" hitting a stone or a hard edge. The plastic can break and may act as a lever pivoting on the screws where the applied force may be too high....?

I'm having second thoughts about the "undercarriage protection". It can also pick up gravel making things worse. I'm going to break in the engine this Saturday and will let you know my experiences.

As I mentioned in the other [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7235301/tm.htm]thread[/link], I didn't try the "undercarriage protection". [sm=red_smile.gif]
It resulted in an excessive static friction on the "Y" steering construction so the servos were active all the time trying to center the wheels. When the undercarriage protection was removed, the problems went away.

So forget all about the undercarriage protection I made [sm=teeth_smile.gif]
