t maxx trans problem
hey guys
i hope you can help me out.
last night i was running my t maxx with an os 18 engine.
all was going well until i flipped the truck on its lid. i went over
and flipped it back. the truck went about 20 ft and then just revved up and won`t move.
as i walked up to the truck i thought i stripped a spur gear. not no. its fine.
it`s something it the trans. i pulled the trans apart and i can`t see anything wrong in there.
no stripped gears or bent shafts. i don`t know whats wrong. i think it might be the clutch in the trans.
anybody know whats wrong? i got the stock 2 speed with rev trans.
i hope you can help me out.

RE: t maxx trans problem
I think your facing the same problem I am having with mine. Does the center drive shaft try to move? and Did you maybe loosen the gear that moves the center drive shaft?

RE: t maxx trans problem
hey mercedes
i don`t know. i only spilt the trans halfs and looked for
stripped gears and bent shafts. the clutch in there springs back and forward fine
and it was shifting fine between first and second and rev before this happened.
i got my maxx used for 100$ and it only needed an engine. i do have a LHS that pretty good with maxxs
so i guess i`ll take it there. this was the first time i took the trans apart. so it all new to me what goes on in there.
i know the savage trans by heart. LOL

RE: t maxx trans problem
buggyman, did you check to see if the slipper clutch was tight? Thats the easiest and simplest thing to check before tearing anything apart. Tighten the slipper nut to "snug" (do not overtighten) then back it off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. I don't know if that is your problem but it's a possibility.

RE: t maxx trans problem
hey buzz
thanks for asking but thats the first thing i checked.
i started the engine and tried holding the spur while i reved the engine.
i almost burnt my fingers trying to hold back on the spur. it grabs fine.

buggyman, the clutch will still turn the spur even if the slipper is loose, the clutch bell and spur gear are meshed together via the gears. The best way to check the slipper is (with the engine off) hold the spur and try to roll the truck backwards, if the truck rolls and you can keep the spur from moving then it is too loose. Hope this helps.

hey buzz
thanks.
now that i think of it. i don`t have the truck in front of me right now(at work)
i tried rolling the truck back and forth and the spur didn`t move. but it spins fine by hand.
thanks.

buggyman, the part #4995 (primary gears forward/reverse) has a yoke pin/drive pin. you can't see if the pin snap unless you take it out.

RE: t maxx trans problem
there's also a one-way-bearing
in the transmission
that can start to slip
and cause your symptoms
i forget the part #
but if you need it
i can look it up later
used to only be a problem with the
old pro.15's
but i'm seeing it more
in the 2.5's
as they get older

Yep, that was a my bad on my part I meant to say the trans. Have u checked all the shafts to make sure nothing is bent or out of place?? If not i would do that to see because its possible that jumping etc could have knocked something out of place...

but nothing jumped out at me. like i said. the t maxx trans is new to me. so i don`t know what to look for.
my LHS has always been good to me. so if don`t find anything wrong tonite. i`ll take it there this weekend.
they close be the time i get home from work.
thanks again guys for all the help. i`m no means a noob with nitros just this trans is something i never worked on before.
i wasn`t even looking for t maxx when i got it. but it was given to me for nothing and a just didn`t feel right taking it for nothing. so i give the guy 100$ for his trouble. i don`t bash it that hard. just small jumps and hill climbing.
