I think the newer 3.3 maxxes might turn the spur when rolling backwards, but the older 2.5 maxxes have a pawl and bell system for forward and reverse shifting that allows you to roll the truck either direction without the spur gear turning 9in the absence of a FOC or no-buck conversion).

there's no 5393. remember he has 2.5 tranny with os engine
the engine has nothing to do with it
and
the 2.5 tranny
certainly does have
part #5393

http://www.traxxas.com/PDF-Library/4902_parts.pdf

for that matter
so does the 3.3
http://www.traxxas.com/PDF-Library/4902_parts.pdf
that's not the tranny of the 2.5.
that's for 2.5r.
2.5 and 2.5r have different tranny

i stand
partially
corrected

the 2.5 - not "r"

does not use part 5393
for the owb

it uses
part # 4986
for the owb

it still uses a owb
and that can
cause the op's symptoms

happy now??????
