Default Carb troubles. Pictures included

My os .18 mwas not reaching its top potenial so i was a little mad. With a little pondering I checked to see if the carb was opening all they way. It wasnt.

I at first thought it was my radio because i was using the losi micro t one. But!! I brought it up to my workbench and with a little messin around i have a solution

Its the dust boot cover on the lsn. I have no idea why its holding it back but it is. The blue one from the 3.3 does the same thing on that engine to.

Anyone got any ideas? i dont wanna drive in the dirt without a dust cover on that.

Two tips for right now.

1- clean that motor up very nice and clean
2- replace that spur

Looks to me like your servo doesn't have enough torque to open the carb up with the dust boot. Maybe try a diffrent servo?

Lol yeah i'm gonna do that today. Is the cooling head good to rinse under water? And the carb to? It will be off the engine off course.

And the servo is the stock one [:@]

The cooling head is probably ok to rinse in some water, but for the carb, I would get some denatured alcohol and let it soak in that for a few hours(give or take) to get all the grime and stuff off of it....

when i clean my engine.
i put carb in the alcohol for a while...and then clean it...
but there were still some kinda sand or stuff in the carb, so i used water with jet-head to clean the inside(i dunt have air gun)
after that...back to alcohol....
then fire it up rite after i put everything together...let it run for like 10 mins...
guess all the water already gone

yeah but i dont prefer that spur gear. Its got 36 teeth I stripped a stock one and thats all i had. So until i get a 38 tooth i'll use that one.

Is the carb ok st spray with brake cleaner instead of the alcohol?

Your carburetor might be slightly out of alignment which causes a binding and does not allow full throttle. [link]http://www.traxxas.com/PDF-Library/5207RINST.pdf[/link]

I do believe u can use brake cleaner, however denatured alcohol is better because it tends to do a much better overall job of cleaning it out.

Dont use brake cleaner, the stuff does work fine, but the crap is toxic and is not friendly to plastic. Denatured alcohol is a better solution. my .02 cnts.

if you want to use brake cleaner
use the non-chlorinated stuff

that's all stuff like
nitro-blaster is

still, the alcohol is
probably safer

Loosen up the pinch bolt and turn the carb Clockwise a mm or two and it should fully open the carb again. Then just tighten the pinchbolt in place.
