TMaxx servo saver eater
Hey all,
I have a TMaxx 2.5, with new 40 series Proline wheels and tires. Ever since I put on the new bigger wheels, the servo saver strips every time the front wheels hit even a small bump! [:@]
I installed aluminum bellcranks, loosened the hingepins and a-arm balls, and even installed a Hitec 685MG metal gear servo!
I have gone through [:@]THREE[:@] servo savers now! The plastic splines just strip when the front wheels hit even a small bump!!!
The servo saver spring doesn't seem to be protecting anything! [:'(]
I don't want to have to go to a straight servo arm, and risk breaking my servo, but what else can I do???
Thanks!

Maybe try a better servo saver?

The last one I have ever bought.
Or use the Pro-line steering kit.

Thanks.
The servo savers I went through were (2) Traxxas and (1) Kimbrough. They all stripped at the spline adapter...
I already have aluminum bellcranks installed.

ya know, I never felt that the splines mated right. I used to race 1/10 electric off road, and never had this issue. hen again, 1/10 offroad cars never weighed 7 pounds!
So what else does everyone recommend? I'm tempted to machine my own servo saver!

almost all aftermarket servo savers I have seen come with multiple inserts for different spline counts. I use the Ofna Heavy Duty (Purple and gold).

Let me see if I understand, is it the splined horn that presses onto the servo that is stripping out on you? I had a problem with those on the bigger rigs stripping out. Had to use one that is not made for the Hi tech servo and fit on one that is much tighter.

Yeah, so there is a spline "adapter" that fits between the servo saver horn assembly and the splined output shaft of the servo itself.
The little "adapter" is stripping where it attaches to the servo output shaft.
Basically all of the servo savers I'm finding use these adapters, to allow their servo savers to (in theory) work with any brand servo. It really sux big time.
The "old school" servo savers didn't use adapters - they were all made for Futaba servos, and that was that.
I'm going to fabricate a servo saver myself. I'll post pics when I'm done...

RE: TMaxx servo saver eater
Sounds like the splines are not a good fit for the Hi tech servo output shaft. I have had to use a very tight fitting horn on my Hi tech servos to prevent them from strippin out on my larger tires.

RE: TMaxx servo saver eater
you need a 23 tooth servo arm for the hitec servos......I ditched the servo saver as soon as I upgraded the servo.....I run a hitec alloy servo arm with no damage to my servo(hitec 625) I suggest installing a servo cage or protector over your steer servo.
Is it the hitec 985 that you are running I couldn't find any hitec 685.....If it is the 985 you needn't worry man just use the servo arm that came with the servo,,plenty of torque......you may want to consider going to the servo saver that is integrated into the bellcrank...much better design.
