every o.s. engine i have had has run hot like that. i think its because they have a really tight pinch, which is also probably why they last forever and are very durable.

I'd still richen it up just a bit.....OS or not you should be able to get good performance and temps around 250 steady.

My 18tm seems to like 250-260 but there are too many variables that can change this. A fellow I know had an 18tm and it liked 290-300 with no problem.

On another note, what fuel are you running? Some brands/blends run way hotter than others.

You shouldnt actually judge your tuning on tempature only, there are alot of factors that apply here. You have you Glow Plug, Altitude and nitro. To really tell how your tuning is, just make sure that your pipe is putting out a small stream of smoke at WOT.

i'd run traxxas fuel if you are really concerned about temps. the max perfermance will be very slightly less but will be more than made-up for in how lean you can run it without overheating.

also make sure your header gasket is sealed correctly, and that your useing a tight spring, that will also help bring the temps down. i have an o.s. .21tm and a bent exhaust hanger, and a drilled out stocker pipe. and sometimes the pipe will pull the header slightly out of position, causeing the header gasket to come out of place slightly, in turn leading the motor to run hot. i hate that setup.

i would not go leaner. if you are alreayd hitting the 290-300 range, but still have a good amount of exhaust, i would just keep running it that way. over time, it will start to run a little cooler since o.s. engines really start to run good after about 3/4-1 gallon.

i always tune when performance is on par with temperature, i always tune for everyday use, no point in making it scream so much if i dont have an opponent

Dont touch the mid needle. Just the hsn, lsn and idle. As the sleeve and piston wears down the temps will go down. You were probably running real rich on the hsn and

another way to slightly lower temps is to get a FOC. "forward only conversion"

hmmmm....

maybe it's stuck in 2nd gear and that would also explain the high temps.

If you can make it shift by spinning it with your hand, it is way to loose, and stuck in second gear. Keep tightening 1/2 turn at a time until it starts shifting close to right, then go in smaller increments to fine tune the shift point. I like the 18tm as well, mine both have lots and lots of fuel through them, 1 in a jato, 1 in an onroad car, and both going strong as ever. Would like to here more about the 21tm though. Bro has one new in box still, and I can't talk him into putting it in his revo or jato until his other motors go out. I wanna see how strong/fast they are.

if you gear it to take advantage of the added torque and hp over the standard 3.3, it flat out rips! mine is starting to wake up nicely at 3/4 gallon. but it was able to lift the front with ease at its first half tank dureing break in i think its pretty much the same thing as the 18tm, but with a bigger bore.
