A Small Wheel Problem
I am taking my truck apart to de-anodize the chassis and brush it so it looks like Clymer's. Anyhow, I went to take off my back right wheel and I cannot get it off. The driver I used wouldn't let me get enough leverage and the socket wrench I used kept slipping. I went to a set of pliers to try and loosen it. Now it is relatively stripped from all this. My question is how do I get this thing off?

RE: A Small Wheel Problem
I won't be able to get a pic up in all likely hood since I'm off to my Dad's house tomorrow after school. I can tell you they probably won't fit though. They are not totally round but they are getting close. My Dremel won't cut metal... Only plastic and wood it seems. I tried to cut a nail once and it didn't work so well.

well... if you have a spare socket, or one you dont like, you could superglue or epoxy it to the nut and then get it off that way. you will have to buy another socket, but you get the wheel off without destroying it. you can buy single sockets too. or some of that jb weld putty stick would work good to fill in the gaps between the nut and socket. just a thought.

RE: A Small Wheel Problem
normally i find that if a wrench im using, is not doing the job.. its time for a new one. i bet a new driver will get that thing off no porblem.
i have the same problem. but only with hex wrenchs. but vaders got the right idea to. a pair off vise grips would get it off. it might chew the nut up. but just throw another one on

Use some plyers to hold the driveshaft in place and then try unscrewing the nut. Wrap the driveshaft in a towel though so you don't mess it up with the plyers.

RE: A Small Wheel Problem
Well the drive shaft is not whats slipping, its the driver on the nut itself, I'm having no problem keeping the wheel stationary.

place the tight wheel between two work tables, so nothing will be supported by the tables just the wheel, the car should be hanging under it. and use something small to shove against the wheel hub axle, or use a small hammer, just be gentle.

Can you just replace the axial? So he could just cut through the entire thing and then replace the axial? Does anyone have a link to just the axial?

RE: A Small Wheel Problem
I don't want to replace the axel because then I have to buy one more thing. Cutting through the axel will melt the CVDs due to heat transfer. Again, could I pleas have some help with where to cut? Thanks.

I'll post it again as probably the cheapest way to get it done... Needle-nose vise grips... You can clamp down on the wheel nut with them... Doesnt matter if the nut is rounded off or not... I think all stock Traxxas rims will have clearnce for this... Get a cheap pair of vise grips at hardware or auto parts store for 10 bucks or so... Better than replacing a wheel or a stub shaft that you may cut thru... I'll post a pic or 2 if you are unsure of what I'm talking about...

Here's some pics... These arent even needle nose (couldnt find them)... The grip is adjustable so you can get them as tight or loose as you want...

or the superglue or jb weld socket to nut idea is still cheaper than buying a new rim. a single socket alone will cost you a max of $5, and thats for a pretty decent one.

RE: A Small Wheel Problem
I just can't see superglue holding two metal pieces together on a rounded out nut with that much force being applied. Then again I could be wrong...

So what exactly is stripped again? You still haven't gotten it off? Try what I said about the driveshaft. Your wheel hex just may be stripped.
